I think he was just chuckling like the rest of us, how long have the results been pending? So long they put a sign up. I guess they don’t want the liability. I’m sure it’s fine water like most all other mountain spring water. Why not post drink at your own risk or filtering or boiling recommend.

    Thanks for stopping by.

I am not sure what is driving their reasons for the closures. After a big fire in 2007, a new district ranger was put in charge of the area, drastic closures happened after she was put in charge. Prior to 2007 an eight mile section was open to dispersed camping and after it the road was redesigned in a way to highly discourage dispersed practices without issuing an out right ban on it. But I am with you I don't care for these tactics either.

Also in the same area the FS are back dragging hundreds of miles of old logging roads. Some of these spur roads haven't been used since the 50's. You could hardly tell that they were there. None of them were accessible using motorized vehicle. They had to actually rebuild a crude road to remove the old spur road. Some of the FS practices make no sense to me.

In the lower left of the photo below, one can see the scarf left where a track hoe back drug the road. The last time that spur road was used was in the 60's. To me it looks worse now than before they messed with it.

Gottcha, must of had an other old timers moment again. They put that little sign up every year. After a few weeks it disappears. Kind of like the military, I guess, the right way, the wrong way, and the military way. Same goes with the FS.

Great report with good photos. Thanks for posting.
My own trips these days tend to be assisted by my Tacoma.....getting on in years doesn’t make it easier!

Yep, old vehicles can add some extra challenges when things don't go quite right. For the most part I have been fairly lucky with them. I carry a lot of tools and have done plenty of Jerry rigging.

Tacoma's are good rigs. I see quite a few of them and the Land Cruisers when I am out and about in the mountains.

    Thanks for stopping by @Dinsdale.

Yep, I had a good time. I have seen lots of changes in that area over the years, sad to say most of them haven't been for the better. I count my blessing that I had a chance to see it before the FS got into the over regulation game.

It rained a lot, but I like the rain. It sure didn't put a dent in the trip in any way.

    Thanks @NORKALNIMROD for stopping in!

Just wanted to mention in the winter of 1975 my dad rolled his pickup into the salmon river and was lucky to survive, he's a tough old guy.

Pretty tough indeed. Was that on the South Fork or Main Salmon?

I hope that I have accentuated the need for water whose purity is beyond question, Gentlemen. Sanitation is serious business ! A grumpy tummy can ruin a trip!

Nice pics, I like pics of fire too.

That stinks about the stove, but the bright side food tastes better over a fire. Coleman tents are no where close to what they used to be, most of them leak if you don't water proof yourself.

Thank you for sharing this trip, nice report to accompany the pics.
