My father had a heart attack yesterday so we broke camp and came in missing the first day of deer season. I guess yard deer will eat the same. Hunting was good this evening but killing not so much.....

Opening day of rifle season in Saskatchewan seen 2 big bucks in the morning but no clear shots. Ended up tagging this one. Then dragged the meat out bushman style put all the boned out meat in the hide sewed it up with a rawhide rope and pulled it the two miles home. 20161120_164243.jpg 20161120_172632.jpg

Our rifle season opened down here Saturday,It wasnt the best day with the high winds coming from the cold front moving in.I took my 11 year old daughter in the morning and she did get to see 3 deer but no shots for her because the deer were moving pretty quickly. She decided that an afternoon hunt was not on her to do list and would rather have a sleep over with one of her friends,so i brought her home and came back, the wind finally died down around 4:30 but the deer were not moving,at least not around me...lol!
Sunday morning, picture perfect hunting morning with temps at 30 and 2mph winds out of the N,NE. This big doe(big for down here 137lbs)comes out with two others at around 6:15am,so I let the 308 do its job and she only ran about 15 yards even with the bottom of her heart blown out(pretty crazy, she didnt drop). So I decided to hunt until around 9am to try for a buck, but at around 8,the smell of blood was too tempting for a coyote headed toward her.I only seen the coyote for a second, just long enough to pick up my rifle but lost it in the grass,so I decided it was best to come down early before he got to it.Anyway here are a couple of pics of the deer. I got this 8 pointer yesterday at 10 AM , for PA rifle opening day. I was about to call it a day, when Bruiser came down the hill. Shot once, and he dropped. Damned if he didn't get up 15 minutes later. Took two more follow up shots, and two hours to drag him out. The pain was definitely worth it. tmp_4471-FB_IMG_1480472066332-1367977044.jpg tmp_4471-FB_IMG_1480472120735131510543.jpg tmp_4471-FB_IMG_1480472076944471468660.jpg tmp_4471-FB_IMG_14804720898901698380952.jpg

These are from last month. Meat was ok but I was holding out for the first freeze, it happen about 2 weeks ago, need to get back out. Got busted twice on my deer season so far. Once was with my 1 year old she didn't see him and wanted to keep moving so she started in with her baby talk and spooked him no big deal we still had fun.

A couple of friends and I did a blast and cast on the last day of duck season here in Texas. We came close to a limit, but fell a few short due to the clear skies and them flying high. We did end up getting 1 bufflehead hen, which is really rare down this far south. In addition, we did end with a limit of black drum, but forgot to take pictures so I guess it did not happen.

Snagged these 3 earlier in the year. 2 of them were chasing each other around a tree. One stopped on my side of the tree so I shot him, then the other ran around the tree and stopped in the same place, so he took a nap as well. Got the third one about 2 minutes later. Browned them and threw them in the crockpot for the day. Made a nice meal.

Yes, I got a big buck this season too but also this little dude. I do like to get the little ones because I can easily handle and cut 'em up myself. And mostly because they are good to eat. This 'un is anyway gone.

    Cheers!

The day before Thanksgiving Day I filled my doe tag and killed a sow from the same deer stand, in an hour and a half of hunting. Turned both of them into hamburger and mixed the meat together, it's a nice combination and tastes great!
