Also Tim an I good to meet you at your house the morning of the first day?
Merry Christmas bud. Sure that'll be fine, you know right where I be.
Please add me to the kuksa list, I would love to do this. Thank you.
Will do bud.
Still no one coming from south GA or FL?
My wife and I are coming several days earlier from Florida, going to BIL's in NE Georgia for a couple of days, then I'm going to TN from there. Then reverse order after meet.
I was hoping for someone to car pool with at least part of the way to help break up the 10 hour drive for me. It wouldn't matter which vehicle we used to me and I could pitch in on gas. That's just a long haul for a solo trip.
If I was going straight there it probably would work out for both of us. Hopefully someone else will be going straight thru, and can pool with you. I apologize.
A little bump for those who may not be aware of the upcoming meet.
Hope everyone is having a good new year! This will be here before we know it and I, for one, am quite excited.
On a side note, I fixed my axe with the loose head. I ended up drilling out the old wedge and putting in a new one. Seems to be working well.
Indeed it will be here before we know it. I too am very excited to meet some new friends visit with old friends and share a great time in the woods!
I feel badly I've missed this planning thread until just today. In the next week or two I should be able to figure out if I can make it. I know I would like to. Where about is the location?
Awesome, hope you get to make it bro! It's in a very small community called Henryville, TN here in Lawrence Co.
Following, hoping work allows.

Awesome!!! I have a couple others I need to add to the list too so thanks for the reminder brother, look forward to meeting you!
as a Boy Scout, the last thing we did as we loaded out was to form a line and police the camp site from one end to the other. from a gun wrapper to a piece of a plastic fork, nothing got left behind. I think that's a good idea still...
If any of you other guys can confirm yet or if you've already confirmed if you can let me know what day you plan to come in it will be a big help to me in choosing the exact base camp for this meet. Also if any of you have any health issues and special physical needs please let me know so that I can do my best to make accommodations for all who would like to attend. It's close enough to time now for me to start getting a feel for how many will be there, knuckle down and pick a site and begin to work on setting up the camp.
PS. Not trying to pin anyone down to anything or write anything in stone It'll just help me a great deal to get an idea of how many will be there and if you know what day you'll be coming in that will be great too.
ETA: When I pick the campsite I'll shoot a new video to show exactly how to get into camp.
I will be there Friday evening.
That is a good idea. Everyone has done a great job at all the past meets (without even being asked) in helping me make sure everything was cleaned up and I'm a firm believer in leave no trace. The former camp was actually on property we have rented and we won't be using that camp any longer so the clean up I did wasn't anything left behind other than what I put there to set up the camp, ie logs, rocks for the fire pit, firewood, ie natural things that needed to be moved.
Really looking forward to this next meet guys!!!
Awesome, thanks brother!
friday evening for me. the ONLY thing that might hold me back is if we close on the house we're buying, or we're moving. will keep you apprised ...
Maybe Monday too
Depends on work.
Still planning on arriving Thursday late afternoon, departing Sunday morning.
Anyone from west Ky.- LBL area going?
My memory fails me brother, I can't remember if there's more from Ky or not. Hopefully they'll chime in if so.
I'll probably arrive about noon on Friday and leave Sunday. I'll be coming from Edmonton KY which is in Metcalfe county if anybody needs a ride.
probably around supper time on Thursday. I'll let you know if that changes...
I checked on some porta potty's today for the meet so we'll have better facilities than last time!
As of now I plan on a long weekend away from work so I should be there around lunch on friday.
This bites. Had a meeting with my ad company today and they have changed their ads to more dates this year and my first ad for the year hits the 21st and 22nd. Which means that I will be running fast like Taz, in a whirlwind of dust. I average about 120-140 phone calls per week of new work every time that ad hits, then I have to go do estimates and scheduling work after that and I don't have a manager or anyone else to drop it on, so it's up to me to keep things going.
It just sux at times to have a group of people depending on your every move for their livelihood. Kinda kills the whole joy of being self-employed. I know guys who wouldn't care, but if a business won't take care of them they won't give a damn about you, or your business. The speed of the leader sets the pace of the pack....
I hope to make a few meets at some point but my business is only 3 years old and still growing like a weed so it takes a great deal of my time and attention.
I told the wife and she seemed relieved that I wasn't going on another trip alone. She worries way too much about me. I swear she thinks I'm going to run off and die somewhere without her!!!
Sorry to hear that bud but I completely understand. I've ran a couple of businesses myself and it's no walk in the park like most people seem to think it is. Hopefully you'll be able to make it next year.
Well...I have a tree service that is growing like a weed. It's january and most guys are being for work and doing it half price. I'm still running 3 days a week at full price.
My advertising now covers 300,000 homes so every time that ad drops (9 times a year) I land about $40-$50,000 every time. Sometimes a bit more if the crew works 7 days a week and we are hammered with the work. I actually schedule a lot more work than that but people don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for us to show up so they get someone else and I lose the jobs.
I also own a carpet cleaning service, a catering service, half of a t-shirt shop and now a landscaping service I just started this past year. Yes...I beat myself up like it's a self-inflicted ritualistic torture....this is why the wife worries so much about me. I have a plethora of health issues (mostly self inflicted) so she is always on me to be careful...take someone along in case there's an issue....I tell her if I die in the woods....at least I'll die happy where I want to be.
By the way Pollock - my wife grew up in Waverly just a little ways north of you there. I have spent many weekends fishing the Cumberland City steam plant on the Cumberland River for big catfish. Also the Red River and down at Pickwick Dam. I love it down there.
Cool, it's a small world after all.
Small world indeed - but after the last shooting I didn't fare too well and haven't been down there in over 5 years now. I need to get back there and many other places as well. Hope to meet you all someday!!!
Yes. I been in a few scrapes with my past jobs. Only been hit twice and last time was in 2011. Seriously screwed up my life. Lost my job because they didn't want to deal with the long term medical expenses and the fallout. Lost half a lung, half my stomach, 3 foot of bowel and have permanent heart damage and now nerve damage from the repeated surgeries.
Pain is a very close friend of mine...my constant companion. Add to that the numerous broken ribs, hands, fingers, toes, vertebrae, skull, legs, ankle, knee, shoulder and 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 60% of my body...you can say I been through a bit of rough times. Plus add 3 stab wounds and a few cuts to that list. My life has been anything but dull...
Wives complains that I refuse to take pain killers that the doctors give me. She worries a lot. I tell her I have ben fast enough, smart enough and lucky enough to stay alive this long...I'm good with the pain and not the pills. I'd rather be in full control of my faculties than live in that blur of a world.
my eldest son is an electrician. i am fretful for a BIG ONE getting him some day ...
A fella can get hurt in a hurry, I know all too well.
I'd like to join in for the February meetup? I'm retired, new to bushcraft and looking for more dirt time. Could you add me to your list, sir?
