    I'd like to propose a new idea for 2018 Meetup planning. Let's set a tentative schedule for the year out in advance - gauge interest and activity level (car camping/bushcraft/backpacking) and see what's happening. I really enjoy forum/group meetups, and know lots of members. I know that we have a ton of new folks, and new opportunities.

    I'd also like to start a thread about what members are into and capable of. If we are always planning 4 mile hike in meetups, we may not have a lot of interest. By contrast some folks may be into car close camping, etc.

    Thoughts:

    List interests, capabilities, and constraints.

    For example:

    BigBubbaJ
    All Season meetups.
    Hike In 2-4 miles, Snowshoe/pulk, car camping
    Likes to use firearms, hunting small game. Big game curious.
    Hot Tent, Hammock, Standard camping. Not into primitive shelter unless it's a group "thing".
    4x4 capable for off-roading required meetups.

    I'm thinking something like this.

    Thoughts???

    I haven't been to a meetup in forever but I am often out there.

    Lars
    All Season meetups.
    Hike in up to 15 miles, snowshoe, car camping.
    Likes fishing (ice, lake, river, creek).
    Hot Tent, Tent. Not into primitive shelter.
    4x4 capable for some light off-roading. Nothing too crazy. Trails like the one to the Crystal Mill are fine.

    Water craft capable (solo canoe, and 3 man canoe,)

    Likes to carry dog along.

    Wants to try out of state this summer or fall.

    Can not handle more than 3 beers before I needs parental supervision.

    Pretty much down for most things. My main preference is that it's close to a good water source, but not necessarily an issue.

    Ungamiya
    All season meetups
    Hike in 2-4 miles, car camping, eventually snowshoe
    Likes: Primitive skills, wild edibles, figuring out ways to use natural resources, fishing, learning about tracking, might try to paint at the meetups, etc.
    Tent, would like to do more primitive shelters in the future.
    4 x 4, light off-road. Older Jeep Cherokees, with a lot of miles and needs work.

    I’m doing an easy backpacking trip to strawberry lake. Heading out Saturday morning 6/16. Back by Sunday afternoon. I believe it’s only about 15miles. You are welcome to come with.

    I am back in Colorado and would love to do some backpacking, offroading, fishing & hunting (I'd like to learn from someone), or camping. I am also into crafting, rockhounding, panning for gold, grill outs, gear swaps, breweries... pretty much anything.

    I can hike in 6+ miles and would like to get into snowshoeing.

    My truck is pretty capable, though it is not lifted.

    Let me know!

    With cooler weather coming up soon, this sounds like we might have the makings of a trip coming up.

    I really enjoy doing loop trails. Two off the top of my head are:

    1. Strawberry lake. A really easy over night hike. It’s very flat so not a killer by any stretch but lacks great views.

    2. Buffalo meadows. Also an overnight trip, it has some nice views and lots of water but start off with a bit of a climb. I would also consider this an easy trip.

    How about the weekend of 10/6 for a meet up trip?

    We all meet that Saturday morning at an in town (Winter park or South Park) location near the chosen trail. Do the trip and all back home by Sunday afternoon.

    @raschalt2000 sent me a text and asked me to clarify that the location is actually called the 'Buffalo Peaks Loop'

    Here's a link to more information: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/buffalo-peaks-loop

    "Buffalo Peaks Loop is a 11.4 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Fairplay, Colorado that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and nature trips and is best used from July until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail."

    There's a cafe called the Brown Burro in Fairplay, CO (South Park) that has good reviews and opens early if we wanted to meet there.

    It's a 3-hour drive for me, so I might try to drive down the day before (Friday) and camp somewhere nearby on Friday before hiking in on Saturday. We'd hike back out on Sunday.

    If you're interested in going, let us know!

    Confirmed:

    @raschalt2000
    @Ungamiya
    @Brew-Jitsu

    Possible:
    @CO Tree Hugger

    What about?:

    No can do this time, I'll be 4,000 miles west of Colorado on a little island in the middle of the ocean on vacation.

    The Buffalos are a nice place for a hike, Cutty's in Rich Creek and mostly brookies in Rough N Tumble creek. I like doing it counter clockwise up Rich and down RnT, there's tons of camping once you get up over the divide and down into RnT, mostly on your left hand side. Watch out for moose, there's tons of them up there. The brookies up high in the meadow are tiny, 6" is a big fish up there but down in the stream itself there 10"-12".

    There was a big fire up there this year, 30,000 acres, it burnt up to the trail on RnT but the trail is open last i heard but I would confirm first.

    A trip I did there a couple years ago

    I just looked it up. Trail is open and there is not a fire ban in Park County right now.

    It looks like there's a 60% chance of rain and snow all weekend. It could be wet and cold if that's a deterrent. I don't typically mind bad weather, but freezing rain doesn't allow much socializing.

    I might not be able to go after all. I messed up something in my lower back on Friday (ironically, trying to do exercises to strengthen my back for this trip.) It's probably just a pulled muscle, but it's still hurting today. If it feels normal by the end of the week, I'll go ahead with the trip. If not, I'll have to sit this one out.
