Had such a great time last spring at the meet up at Noblett Lake. Met a bunch of great folks and had learned a ton of stuff! Want to make sure that this can happen again. Not from Missouri but I hope I can still do a good job coordinating this from Chicago. I propose that we get that same loop we took over last spring. Planning to make it for Saturday, Sunday and Monday (4/14-4/16). I think we are starting this early enough to get a good turn out. We have access to very nice lake and I want to bring some canoes this time. This is primitive camping but we found the pit toilets at the pavilion were accessible... but don't count on it. Drive right to the campsites so bring whatever you want. Just want to tag everyone who came last year so that they can see this. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Aaron

EDIT: I just noticed that the RSVP expired... I fixed it now... The more the merrier!

Looking forward to it. I already have a few items for another good give-away...
Let's see if we can get people farther than me this time. 11.5 hr drive from Wisconsin.

    ATTENTION! DATE CHANGED!

I goofed up (surprise!)... I originally had this scheduled for March 31 - April 2. Turns out that April 1st is Easter. That won't work... Plus, I married a Greek so, Greek Easter is April 8th. Bumped this forward two weeks. Sorry about the confusion.

Loving the fact that people are showing such a large interest so early! I would like to keep the get together casual and fun but would like some suggestions on any planned activities or contests (just to keep things interesting). But this is not a "seminar" or "workshop" so just eating, carving, burning, drinking and just enjoying each other's company would be a great time also. I don't live anywhere close to Noblett Lake. I am asking to have someone volunteer to check the camp out a week or so before the meet up. Just to make sure things are in good order. It's getting close and I am getting super excited! Thanks, Aaron

@MaddHatter , I moved the conversation here for convenience. Dogs are definitely welcome. Great companions for any outdoor activities. Just bring a leash with you in case any rangers come by.

Of course my sorry butt will be in attendance...lol. However I do plan on showing up on Friday after my daughter gets out of school and yes my dog Zak will be there with me again as well. BTW there is a well established and maintained trailhead to hike on for those new to Noblett Lake Area.

Great! I was wondering when I would hear from you guys. I was debating on getting there Friday night also but I need to work that day (since I'm taking Monday off) and with the eight hour drive, I would get there way too late.

UPDATE; My daughter will not be in tow, so for me it will be "Dad's Gone Wild". lol. That said, depending on how long she will be welcome at her friends home will dictate whether I stay till Monday.

Update: I'll be there from the 13-16. So yay to me as I get a 4 day weekend... I know I know shut up and quit rubbing it in. But it's nice having a 3 day weekend and taking another day off. Besides I'll make up for it on the following Friday.

    Greetings all,

I am new the to the BCUSA forums and excited to see some stuff happening in MO. I live near KC so KS or MO ar easy.

My grandson is a Weblos scout and likes “campin” with Papa. He has read about half of Dave Canterbury’s Bushcraft 101 book and knows the five Cs. Time for him to practice a couple of them.

We will be at Noblett Lake early Sat and must return Sunday night for school an work.

Thanks a ton for organizing this and I look forward to meeting ya’ll.

The "special" raffle is growing in size... More themes this time. (Just a teaser... cooking, cutting, fire craft, whittling, lighting.)
Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Only a month away.

I found some printable maps for the Noblett area in last years meetup blog. Is any one really good at map and compass navigation: I would be interested in brushing up my skills and introducing others to old school gps.

    Thanks all,

Looking forward to seeing everyone (old and new), not looking forward to the ride though (23 hrs. round trip). How's the site looking? Anyone been there lately?

Are we having a parachute this year, and a group site? Or, are we just doing a free for all type gathering?

I have a new way to set it up too. Learned it from another group. Involves climbing the tree though, (bring air mattress to soften the fall!!!)

@Spirit-Wolf is correct, I was able to use my cell by the lake last year. It has been a long winter and can't wait to dust off my gear and get out in the woods! I will be leaving as early as I can on Saturday morning. Eight hour drive so I might not get there until 3:00. I am driving my two kids with me. My nephew is meeting us there since he is driving from University of Kansas. I loved the communal site but not sure if I will get there early enough to help set up. @RickS thanks for checking the place out for us. Can't wait to see you guys again!

I just checked the weather and it looks like rain on Saturday morning and clear the rest of the weekend. Not that we can trust a seven day forecast. Got a bunch of cool stuff for the give-a-way. Bringing the bowdrill set that @Broke gave my last year. Maybe I can finally get a fire started with it so I can pass it on to someone else! I will admit that I have been pushing the odds in my favor. I brought the set in from my garage a month ago and put it in my furnace room to get bone dry... I need all the help I can get!

I will throw my whelen in, but can always climb in the back of truck if it gets too bad. I probably won't set up right on the creek bank though.

The date is getting closer and I can't wait to get out in the dirt again! Funny that it might be warmer in Chicago than the Ozarks... But we are prepared and ready for whatever mother nature throws at us. I will see you guys soon.

I was in my garage yesterday dusting off my gear and getting stuff organized for the meet up. Nice to get my hands on my gear again... been too long. I do not have any "planned" activities for the meet up. Just socialize as little or as much as you want. I would like to repeat one cool thing from last year: the trading table. What we did last year is people brought any extra gear or gear they just don't use any more and set it on a table. Then we pulled names from a hat and those people got to go to the table and select an item that they want. We repeat this until all the gear is gone. I think that I put some pretty cool stuff together for the trading table. Everyone that is interested is encouraged to participate. It was great fun and old unused gear gets a new home! See you guys soon... this will be my first winter camp (it sure feels like it!).

So out of curiosity, who all is showing up tomorrow besides me @Rammer, and I believe @Spirit-Wolf.

Not us... But we are hoping to get there between 2 - 4 pm Saturday afternoon. Also, if any of your family members want an emergency contact, feel free to give them my cell. I don't mind giving it out since it is connected to my work and I get spam calls all day long anyhow. Please feel free to call me if you guys forgot anything. Thanks, Aaron 773-491-6543

My grandson and I will be there in the evening. We were gonna stop on the way down, but it’s only 4.5 hours, so we will be there. Also have to leave Sunday, work stinks...

Excited to see folks and learn from some other perspectives.

Well, I am sorry guys, I am not going to make it. I just got home from a train trip, 13 hours on duty today with no naps...
    Sorry guys.
    Hope everyone has fun!

We had to leave Sunday afternoon. Had an awesome time. Grandson has new skills and equipment. He is already telling stories about hiking with Jake. Thx to ALL for sharing so much knowledge, skills, and equipment.

@Terrapin - can you share a bit of the background on that Otzi style knife? I can’t remember if you said you make them or not. My grandson should get YEARS of use from it.

@Broke if you are in the KC area let’s meet for coffee...

So much learned I am still trying to process it in my head. Thx for sharing!
