Well that's a bummer I guess I had this hyped in my mind as being an all out primitive experience .....which i was really hoping like I said having to get water from a stream needing to boil my water a la bushcraft style

That being said, you won't be disappointed. You get to meet and learn a ton of skills straight from the teachers on here.

It can be as primitive as you want it to be. It just depends on how much work you want to put into it vs. talking to and learning from others, as well as catching up and visiting with friends.

About 5 years ago, one of the guys dug a shallow ditch, made a long fire in it, and covered the coals up with about 6" of dirt. That night, he slept on top of it all, staying nice and warm from the heat of those coals radiating up through the ground. He did some other really cool bushcrafty projects, too.

Last year year we had a great class by Terry on survival kits. He told us to assemble one that would fit into his shirt pocket, and then we spent an hour setting up and using the items in our kits. There will be different classes and lessons this year.

Anyway, it's not some manicured campsite with RV hookups, but there are some amenities that make it possible for 30+ people to efficiently camp in one area. But I don't think you will be disappointed if you are looking for a bushcraft experience. There is a common camp area with a fire, but then you will have to find a place to set up your own sleeping arrangements. For one, it meant a bivy bag on the ground warmed by coals under the ground, for others, a tarp and ground sheet, for many of us, it's a hammock and tarp, for others, a nylon tent, and some go all out with a canvas tent with a wood stove for heat.

It's always a good time though.

The property doesn't have much of a spring for water, and its a long way from camp. Plus, with all of the agricultural runoff, its best to go with the water provided.

This is not designed to be a primitive meet. As you can see from the photos above, guys are hauling in big propane stoves, lanterns, etc. It's a lot of fun and there are plenty of opportunities to wander off and practice whatever skills you would like to work on.

That clears up a lot please don't misunderstand my previous rant I'm still very much excited and looking forward to it.... Although looking at the pic from previous years there's a lot of them that involves guys with.... I haven't been shooting in a while so is that a common thing I typically always travel with something just as a just-in-case kind of thing just wasn't sure if he'd be permitted for those.... I also got a new lever action (Marlin 1895 gbl) that I've been dying to "play" with

Pretty disappointed. Unless things take a turn, excess funds will not be available and vehicle issues have conspired to put my ability to make it this year slightly out of reach. Hope you fellas have an excellent weekend. Wish I could make it.

    Firearms Class Idea

Well, after some thought and consultation with an above average attendee, I believe I have an idea for a 4 hour firearms class on Thursday for those that can make it. Instead of making it specific to a particular type of weapon, it is going to be tactics based, not weapon based. Weapons handling in a crowded environment, use of cover, limited penetration room clearing, and shooting around a vehicle are the topics that come to mind. It could be completed with a handgun, AR-15, pistol caliber carbine, shotgun, or even a .22 caliber rifle. Basically, whatever you have will work.

Let me know what you think. Keep in mind, for a class like this, you would have to know how to shoot and handle your firearm before you get here. I can scale the tactics a little bit, but it would not be a class to teach you how to shoot your gun.

P.S. - We have 13 enrolled so far.

A look out front. Crops are starting to change color.

I just registered. I’m just slow like that! I’ll plan on being there Thursday. And like last year, let me know when I can go and clean up camp, and or harvest timber if needed.

Haven't registered yet, but I will. What time on Thursday do you think you'd start the class? I'm not sure whether I can get down on time for that or not.

It won't be a super high round count, maybe up to 200. I will base the drills on non-standard response, which means the shooter can fire 2-5 rounds. So if you need to budget your ammo, you could fire on the low end.

We could schedule it for after lunch?

Okay so I know I brought this up before, but I'm still really stressing it because this will be my first time, and we are now down to crunch on getting all my crap together (specifically biggest stress point is still the meal planning bit). I know someone mentioned keeping an eye for some of the group pot luck meals and jump in on those... maybe I'm not looking in the right place..but haven't seen and mention of when, who, what is going on in regards to that. If someone in the know could maybe hit me up I'd love to jump in on something like that. I'm still deciding on bring my cast iron dutch oven on just using my msr seagull stow pot. My biggest concern right now is planning what I'm gonna to make for food so i know what to pick up. Would anyone be willing to share so meal or recipe ideas PM if you think its best so we dont clutter this thread. Just kinda looking for thing that would be both tasty and keep the hunger away of what could be a chilling Nov weekend out with you all.

@NordicWolf, you haven’t seen a food thread because the meet is still 6 weeks out. The food thread probably won’t pop up until mid-October when we have a better idea of how many will be attending.

Just know that Friday and Saturday dinner will be group meals for those that want to participate. Breakfast can be as simple or complex as you want it too be, some do oatmeal, some do eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes on the Dutch oven lid. Plus, @Fick might have a big cast iron breakfast going on Saturday.

Lots of guys bring a cooler with cold cuts and such for lunch.

You can stress if you like, but know that if you showed up empty handed in a t shirt and shorts, you would be sheltered, clothed, and well fed.

@NordicWolf there's only one thing to stress about and that's not following google maps directions, if you are coming from the west. Everything else will work smoothly and you'll have plenty of time for decisions on gear and food :dblthumb:

Plane tickets booked. Looks like I'll be flying into Kansas City to hang out with friends Thursday, then hitch a ride up with @j (aka Program_J_Missouri on Instagram) on Friday morning and back down Sunday eve.

    Looking forward to it!

    Awesome.

You, @The Woodsrunner and @FoxLite Gear are all welcome to offer your goods up for sale as well. I’m sure everyone would enjoy the opportunity to see your stuff in person and take some home with them.

Update. @PauliWalli, I just noticed you’re a hobbyist as well. Feel free to bring along some of your creations.

I haven’t registered yet but I will do that this weekend. Kurt, I will come for the class on Thursday as well. Will there be a separate registration for that too?

So here I am doing a last minute check list of any last minute gear item i may need to come up with. So far it seems Im sitting pretty "A Okay" Just at a crossroad of a decision. my shelter will be consisting of the Bushcraft Outfitters 10x10 Sil-nylon tarp. And most likely pitched in an A-frame at that the only configuration i feel all that proficient with. Now here lies the choice that need to be made....i know many seem to just carve stake out of branches they find in the bush. or there the lite weight metal stake you can purchase just not sure what route to go with for this event i can go buy stakes if that would be best....im presuming with it being mid November the ground will be pretty hard so im not sure how well carve stake from branches will work? as this will be my first time thought id reach out to you all on hear and get some input or incite from your experiences

I always have a set of MSR Groundhog or Vargo Titanium stakes with my 10x10 tarps. For the smaller tarps I'm usually content with the Toaks shepherd's crook stakes. Check Bushcraft Outfitters or even Amazon.

Worst case, if you can't get any kind of stake into the ground, it will be a good time to practice using heavy objects (logs, rocks, people who don't move very much) as anchors for your shelter. It's pretty common in some areas that stakes don't work. I use rocks as anchors regularly in the mountains or especially rocky desert areas to hold my shelters up.

That said, I really like the convenience of a good metal stake. I prefer the Big Agnes DAC aluminum stakes, they work very well and are pretty strong.

@NordicWolf, I agree with @XMP. I always have a set of stakes with my tarps. Depending on your budget, Walmart also has some metal shepherd hook stakes that cost about $0.69 each. They are heavier than the ones listed above, but effective. I bought a bunch of them for a shelter class I taught at a kids camp.
