This will be the first year I use store bought stakes. Any other time I’ve always used wood stakes or logs. Early November the frost won’t be very thick. So question is how much time do you wanna spend on shelter setup? I bought some titanium stakes, which can be used as a pot stand if you choose, and countless other things

If I remember right, they even have cheaper clones of the MSR Groundhog's as well. I think that is where I got mine.

Yup, this is the heart of the matter! It comes down to time and convenience. I have 6 of those really cheap, simple steel stakes from Walmart . They work fine and I don't cry if I lose one, but someday I will replace them with a lighter option.

I would like to get the t-shirt order placed next week so that there’s enough time for the printers to do their thing.

If you have been following this thread and plan to attend, but haven’t signed up yet, you may want to get after it. I would send a reminder out to all from last year, however, we changed business management software and in the process, lost access to the list. So if you read this and know of someone, please help me call them out.

As long as I remember, I’ll be bringing some things to add to med kits, some simple things to some exotic things. Should be mostly simple to use. First aid is (in my opinion) one of the more neglected essential kits.

Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa have gotten a lot of rain this year and had a lot of flooding, so mosquitoes are pretty bad in this part of Nebraska at times. I'm hoping we get some colder weather soon to kill them off!

Here is a rough draft of the schedule for the weekend.
    • I’ll try to get the firearms course for Thursday finalized and online this week.
    • Dinner at Winner’s Thursday night for those that arrive early
    • There may be an opportunity to hit the long range Friday morning depending on the number of people arriving and setting up camp.
    • We may need to cut/haul firewood on Friday. It’s been extra wet around here and I’m afraid that what was left in camp from last year may be punky by now.
    • The old chute is in shambles, so we will put up a new one on Friday.
    • I’m thinking the trade blanket starts on Friday night so guys have a chance to see what’s being offered and have time to play with any new purchases.
    • Open range will be after breakfast Saturday morning.
    • Terry is going to do a class after lunch on Saturday. Subject yet to be determined
    • Greg is going to do an AR-15 assembly, disassembly, trouble shooting, ‘what’s this part for’ type of class Sunday after breakfast
If you have a skill that you would like to share in the form of a short class, please let me know. We’ve had classes on Dutch oven cooking, first aid, machetes, improvised packs, and snaring small game during previous meets.

If anyone is interested, @rphumble has a hand crank rope machine he received from his dad that he could bring up for a demo.

I'm registered and raring to go. Middle son is coming, too. He may bring his guitar, depending, but isn't versed in the hilly-rocka-billy stylings.

I was up in Tekamah this weekend, so I ventured down to camp to take a look around and get an idea of what all needs to be done. For those of you that have never seen it after a long summer, its always overgrown and for the most part downright ugly. Today was no exception.

I decided to go this route to start the clearing process. It lays the nettles down very easily and unlike a power trimmer, doesn’t send bits and pieces of nettle and poison ivy flying into the air.

I’m sure a few sail needles and some paracord inner strand is all we need to bring it back to life. This will be a project for Friday.
