The time has come again for The Trip Report Challenge!! This year we shall carry on the tradition of previous years only we will run From January till December encompassing one calendar year. Here are some links to previous challenges

    https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/2015-trip-report-challenge.141696/

    https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/the-2017-2018-trip-report-challenge-winner-announced.198770/

So here is how it works. Get out!! Once a month, take a picture from the same location, looking the same direction, same content, documenting the entire year. Can be something local and easy, a day hike, or something more challenging.

    RULES:

    Must have supporter status.

This is a 12 month running contest. You will post one photo each month. Month #1 is January 2019 You will need 10 submissions to qualify. So if you miss a month here or there you can still make the cut. No new entries will not be accepted after March. At that point less than 10 months will remain and qualification will be impossible. Anyone completing the full 12 month gauntlet will receive an extra entry. You need not post a full trip report in this thread. Just one photo per month. If you choose to include a link to a trip report the photo was taken on that is encouraged.

    PRIZE:
I am going to change it up this year. I haven’t decided on what the prize will be. At this point it’s a surprise. But it will be a prize worthy of the efforts put in to complete the challenge.

So with that said, who's in? I'll do my best to keep a tab in the OP of everyone participating and how many photos they've submitted after they make their first entry post. I hope you guys can get out and enjoy this challenge as much as I have in the past.

    !!!!!!! GO !!!!!!!

Definitely in on this. I don't know how I could have missed the other challenges that were done.

I will have to look for a good spot close to the house here. Just found out that I have a few hundred acres of land next door that I am free to roam on. :)

I’m in for this one @Luchtaine

It will make sure I make time for at least some day trips.

    January 5th
    [IMG]

Here's the spot on the family farm at the top of the ridge. It overlooks a clearing that usually has some small game action and it has plenty of rocks nearby for a great fire reflector/wind break wall. Next is one or two lean tos.

    February 24th
    [IMG]

I headed up the ridge with two of the younger cousins in the family. We improved the reflector wall and cleared out some scrub that had popped up. I definitely need to take a machete on the next trip out. Photographer did a pretty good job considering he didn’t have the first photo for reference.

    March 23rd
    [IMG]

Not much has changed but I bet April’s photo will be all green. I worked on some Bushclass Intermediate lessons and finished up that throwing stick that’s on my pack. Here's a post with some of the things I worked on.

    April 30th
    [IMG]

Well, I wasn’t wrong about the green. It’s a whole new feel up there. Fortunately it seems I cleared most of the poison ivy from the immediate area. It’s pretty common in those woods, but I only saw a little at my spot. I have to remember to pack a machete to clear out that small growth.

    May 30th
    [IMG]

May is knocked out. I cleaned up the undergrowth with my machete and an improvised rake you can see there. I’ll post a link to the trip report once it’s up.

    June 30th

Well here’s the site of a failed attempt at the Green Wood Fire Challenge. Here's a link to my attempt...

I knocked out a few projects. I’ll post up a link to the report when I get it together.

Not in again. I already have a 2+ month camping trip planned for Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier and will probably be somewhere else on the planet for another month. Tough to head back for that picture! Look forward to the entries.

I'm in! The things that forced me to drop out of the last one are mostly taken care of this year. Looking forward to getting "acrive". (Is that spelling a tradition now?)

Btw, I let my membership expire when it came due a few weeks ago. I'm waiting until the first of the year to renew, so I can remember when it's due again next year. Lol

You can go wherever you’d like. For the purpose of the contest the photo has to be same location, same view to show the course of an entire year in one photo scene.

Dang, I wish it wasnt same spot each month. We camp at different spots each month . I might repeat one or 2 in a year but we hit 8-10 different places every year. Could make this easily.

This spot chose me. I wandered around this morning looking for that "perfect" view. I stopped here, took this pic, and stepped over that log to get another angle. I lost traction on the snowy leaves and fell on my butt. Somehow I managed to kick my pack with my acrobatics and sent it rolling down the hill.
There it is in center frame.
    0103191235.jpg
I figured this spot had some special magic, so I called it a day.
In other news, the field test of my new TruSpec Expedition trousers was a success. Stretchy in the right places and very wet leaf resistant.

I will give it a shot. I have been looking for an excuse to go to my favorite spot at the base of the mountains. It is supposed to get above freezing tomorrow for the first time in a while. Hope to get out and get pic #1.

Question about this challenge. Is it best to just put the one picture in a post, or can there be additional pictures? Just add to the thread, or add the next pictures to my picture post?

Just add to the thread, new posts as you go. When I participated in the first one I made a thread with all the photos in order so you could scroll one post and see the whole year.

I'm in! Now I just need to decide which spot to go to.

That is what I plan to do. That way I can keep track of the outings and I won’t clutter up this thread.
I didn’t make it to the mountains today. I ended up carrying in a bunch of wood pellets for the stove and plowing snow in preparation for the next round. Maybe tomorrow...

Sometimes. I have had to use snowshoes to get feed to the dogs at the old place. Several feet of snow on the ground at one time. Normally it will snow and melt, but not always.
This snow has been around for a few weeks now and it gets added to as we go. More on Sunday it looks like. Not bad, but I figured I better clear the garage doors and driveway once more before we get more. The guy who built the place messed up and faced the garage NORTH! o_O

This is my back yard bushcraft area in the foreground and my chosen spot in the red circle above the house behind us. It is about 3 miles over there...
