Today dawned sunny and brisk, with a pretty persistent north wind. Undaunted, our fearless crew arrived at the appointed hour and set up shop. There was a lot of ice, on the trail in and at the meet site. @Gizamo arriving...

It wasn't long before things started jumping and we had a fire going. @Bad Little Falls sets up a tripod...

    IMG_6278.JPG

As usual, the talk turns to knives. Here @GoodPhotos (l) and @Tom Eickenberg (r) exam a couple of knifemaker Lamont Coombs' knives...

    Lamont makes very nice knives....

Meanwhile, in a quiet corner, the secretive Bear Grylls user group was plotting... me left, @Barebow60 right....

@Zanimal's dogs Milo and Ollie were a big hit as always. A couple of very smart and well behaved dogs. Here they listen intently to @Gizamo explaining his frying pan holder. The fact that bits of grilled meat were involved may have played a role...

Stim Wilcox gave one of his hatchet bow demonstrations to an appreciative audience. What he can do in half an hour with stick is pretty amazing...

I had a lot of fun and it was good meeting @Tom Eickenberg and @GoodPhotos , both good guys who I look forward to seeing again. There was plenty of good chow as always, ranging from chili to moose meat to chocolate cake. I don't think anyone left hungry.
Also collected a nice sum in the donation jar to benefit the land trust who so graciously allowed us the use of the facility. Thanks to all who attended!

Looked like a phenomenal time. I think that I personally would amend the temperature from "brisk" to "a might chilly", judging by the ice (and cheeks and noses of cherry). thanks for posting the rendezvous.

It was a awesome day. Pretty hardcore group to not even complain about the weather. The dogs Milo and Ollie made my day! Super fun dogs!

The demos were interesting and really informative. The kids in the group got the campfire going with a bit of help. I really enjoy seeing young folks outside ...not with their heads buried in electronics. They were polite and as fine as could be. Really good gang of young ones.

Already looking forward to the Puckerbrush event this Summer....

Here are a few more random pics...

Milo bringing @Gizamo a stick to throw. Milo can do this all day and the novelty never wears off. @Tom Eickenberg and @GoodPhotos look on approvingly.

My old Kelty from the '70s seeing its first use in quite a few years. There are still some places the external frame pack shines...

Great meet, a beautiful site, nice weather, good food, good people, plenty of family, what more can one ask for, but then again any time people who love the wild places get together it's usually a great time, we hold several meets a year down here in south eastern MA. and I always look forward to them, I know your part of the state well and would have liked to attend, unfortunately my COPD doesn't do very well in the cold anymore.
Were wolf won and I were talking yesterday about planning our first meet of the season this spring, it's usually posted in the New England locals forum, if any of your people can attend you'd be more than welcome.

Thanks for the kind words and invite, very much appreciated. If the cards were right I'd love to check out one of your meets, will keep an eye out.

Boy Scouts in South Brewer late 60's I wanted one of those kelty pack and frame rigs. My grandmother got me a frame for Christmas or my birthday she couldn't afford a pack for it. The frame didn't have a waist strap. I would wrap everything up in my poncho and diamond hitch it onto the frame. WAAAAAY better than the canvas YUCCA pack I was using.

I hear ya there. Prior to the Kelty I was using a Norwegian Bergans leather and canvas ruck. Classic piece of gear, but absolute torture with any weight or distance to go. The Kelty made backpacking enjoyable, my more modern internal frame packs make it even better.

You're not late of Westerly, RI are you? Thinking there was a guy from there who attended the first Puckerbrush with his brother and some friends who had a similar handle.
