Calling all Skramas! Calling all Skramas!!! I seem to remember someone in our group owning a Varusteleka Skrama and I have been very interested in getting one but before I do, I'd like to put my hands on one.

I initially accused @Fat Old Man of being the one but he disabused me of that notion pretty quick. was it you @CoolBreeze135

anyway, if anyone owns a Skrama, or knows someone they can borrow one from, can you please bring it to the meet in a couple weeks? I'm dying to hold one in my grubby little paws...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
wow, I posted this in the OTHER 3rd Annual Dirt Time thread (2018 Winter) and didn't get any response.

    maybe better luck here?..

    Hey fellas,
The way I had the titles of the two meet threads worded was a little confusing and I've had to watch carefully myself to keep from getting the two mixed up. You may want to double check your recent posts to make sure it was in the thread (Fall or Winter) you meant for it to be.

I'll edit the titles and try to word them better to make it less confusing.

Since this one will be a much smaller meet (fewer people) I hadn't planned on getting a port-potty for this one. They are $75 each for the weekend. Is everyone OK with that? Since I'm hosting two meets this year if I did them for both meets that would be $300 for the poo place alone. :3:

Just as a side note. There is a fire hall about 1/2 mile from camp that has porta-pottys should someone have any abnormal stomach issues while there.

If anyone has a health issue and having a porta-potty or not would be the deciding factor of whether you could attend or not please shoot me a PM.

Well, I got that Friday off, so that's good news!

But I just blew the head gasket in my truck (300-6 Ford) on Wednesday. Bummer. Started working on it today and removing all of the components just to get to the head is like peeling back the layers of an onion, complete with the tears! Please pray for me! Thank you. -FOM

    I'm a fan of potluck/group meals.
started a batch of shoulder bacon - should be ready just in time.
I have a couple of 1/2 gallon percolator pots I can bring - may be able to borrow a bigger one.
can also bring a 15" sheet steel skillet if you think it'd come in handy.
do I need to bring my HD fire grate? about 4' wide by 14-16" deep, but oddly spaced bars.
also - buddy of mine made some portable fire pit/stoves out of 15" tire rims with legs to get them of the ground -- if there's room in the van, I can bring one.

Me too :4: and I'm really glad you mentioned that.
I have a couple of fairly good sized grills we used at the last couple of meets and I don't want to put anyone out but you are more than welcome to bring yours if you have room for it and don't mind.

@ra2bach had mentioned it earlier and I meant to comment further on it and got sidetracked. I had one organized group meal where I cooked for everyone but being the host that didn't work out too well as I felt it took me away from the group for too long when I should have been with them. The potluck style group meals seem to work much better. The fellowship & food to me are some of the highlights of the meets and everyone has always been great to bring extra to share. At the first meet or two folks asked what they could bring and I really didn't have a decent answer for them. No one is expected to bring extra but many do and anyone is welcome to help cook up some grub for the group. If you'd like to bring something to share it really doesn't matter what it is, we just appreciate eating it. LOL I'm sure I'll forget numerous things that have been shared, you guys can help fill in the blanks if you'd like since my memory ain't worth a flip but here's some of the things that have been shared.....
Kabobs, pheasant, venison, pizza, fish caught in the river by camp, squirrel that was killed on the property, beef stew, pork BBQ, Conecuh sausage (yeah man!), last year some cobblers, the list goes on and on.

I'm not sure how well I worded that but hopefully the message gets across. No one is "expected" to bring food to share but anyone that would like to is more than welcome to do so.

Any of you fellas have a Firebox gen 2? I've looked at twig stoves online for nearly 3 yrs and can't make up my mind which I like best (haven't seen any of them in person) yes I'm picky as heck LOL. I'd love to see a 5" Firebox or the other one from Germany... can't think of the name at the moment, if anyone has either you could bring. I've made a few hobo stoves and alcohol stoves but for a twig stove I think I'd much prefer a stove that folds flat.

@T. Pollock just a heads up, I'm not sure about your area but over here in the East Tn. area they just enacted a fire ban....
You can still get permits but need to have it on hand. Just something that we may need to check about. I heard it this morning on the news.

I've been away from the forum for a while. Too much work... and I was spending too much money on the trade blanket. I will hit one of these eventually but I can't make this one. Hope everyone has a great time and stay safe!

Since I plan to continue to host one or two meets each year, to me it's a waste of money (both mine & from donations to the meets) to continue to rent porta-pottys each time. I've always hated the idea of having to rent "anything", I just see it as a waste of hard earned money. I had much rather invest in buying a tool than rent one if it's something I'll use more than once. I'm going to either buy or build (most likely build) us a place to privately use the restroom. Right now I'm looking at all the different options and trying to decide what would work best.

Anyhow... I will have at least one of something set up for this meet so folks can have a private poo place.

Ez-up is the most well known, they are available from many brands though, foldable shade l, foldable tent etc.

This one has good (and lots of) reviews and is an amazon choice. Isn't Sierra a good tent brand?

My thought at this time is to use one of these for the roof, divide it down the middle with a tarp, use tarps around the sides and have two pottys one on each side. It needs to be something I can take down and store till the next meet.

ETA: My thought is to have a composting type poo hole with a toilet built over it (With Real Toilet Seats) :dblthumb: and having saw dust & lime for a person to toss in each time they use the potty.

An outhouse huh. What luxury! Though, the first person to die in all the movies is the one that goes to the outhouse first.

EZ-Up canopy is the typical brand. Kinda like Kleenix for 'facial' tissue.

    @T. Pollock

Check academy sports. I purchased one a couple of years ago and have good luck with it and I think it'll be a little cheaper than the one on Amazon. I bought a true 10 x 10 (one with the legs are straight up and down and not angled). I bought 4 - 10 x 10 Coleman curtains from Wally world. Let me know if I can help.
