Info/Details For the 2018 Winter Meet

    Open to all BCUSA members.

I really don't have any "rules" for the meets I host, just common sense... be nice, stay safe, have fun!
Here are some details though that might help with some questions some of you may have.

What do I need to bring???

Any individual gear you need to survive for a few days outdoors, plus any that you want to play with, show off or trade / sell.
Food you will need to avoid starvation, plus a little extra if you have something you want to share.
Any guns you want to shoot or show off, maybe a little extra ammo if you are willing to share and try others stuff.

    1. There will be a central fire pit for everyone to cook on if you choose.

    2. Fishing is available as we'll be right on the Buffalo River and small game hunting will be allowed as well, as long as you have your license. You catch or kill it we'll cook it. :4:

    3. Show & Tell with gear swap/trade/buy

    4. God forbid we should need it but if anyone has health issues and perhaps to put your mind more at ease we'll be a short 15 minutes from the local hospital.

    5. I've been asked about having a drink at the meet. I rarely ever drink and when I do it's only a single mixed drink before bed, that said I have no problem if others want to drink a beer or two while you're there or a beverage before bed as long as it's kept within reason and you're not handling firearms during nor after doing so. For those that don't drink and might have concerns, please know that if anyone starts to get out of hand with it that I'll have no issue whatsoever dealing with it. It will be kept safe and fun for everyone!

    6. Please don't forget to bring your camp seats and an extra or two if you have one just in case anyone else forgets theirs.

    7. If any of you have a weather resistant folding table you could bring it would be a great help.

    8. Since the meet will be held on private property (my mother's land) to protect her and myself each participant will need to sign a liability release waiver when you arrive (unfortunate but necessary now days) and if you bring anyone under age the adult they come with will need to sign one for them as their responsible party. If any of you would like see or sign the waiver prior to the meet I'll be glad to email it to you.

Hopefully the link below will work if you'd like to see the release. It's the same release I've used for all the meets.
    http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/attachments/my-release-of-liability-1-pdf.326940/

    9. A shooting range will be set up for those that would like to shoot firearms. For safety shooting (on the range) will be allowed during a designated time ONLY. @tennecedar or myself will supervise the range and shooting will only be allowed while one of us are on the range. Again as a reminder no one that has been drinking alcohol will be allowed to handle or shoot firearms as the two are a very dangerous combination, if you plan to shoot that day... don't drink until afterward. I don't mean to be rude or ugly about this but my top priority is to make sure everyone there is safe and has a great time!

    10. Members Fat Old Man, tennecedar and TN_Woodman are all great guys and personal friends of mine and have been at all my meets. If you need anything while at the meet and I'm not available see any of these guys and they will be glad to help you with anything you need.

    11. Please bring your cameras so we'll have plenty of photos of the meet to share on the forum. We need to show those that didn't make it how much fun they missed out on.

    12. Range time will be Saturday evening as usual.

    13. There will be a Trade Blanket/Swap Meet.

    14. Pets (dogs) I don't want to offend anyone and I know dogs are great bushcraft companions for some of you when you are solo or with family. I love dogs but this is a different setting. We'll have a large group and everyone may not be comfortable with dogs so I ask that you please not bring your dogs (or other pets).

    15. After my little incident of being shot at the other day I may be super sensitive to this issue but I ask that everyone be very careful to follow all firearms safety rules! I love you all and don't want to be rude but if I see anyone being unsafe with a firearm make no mistake, I'll be quick to deal with it!!!

    16. Small game hunting and fishing are allowed during the meet as long as you have the proper license to do so legally.

Assuming no family or work scheduling conflict, I am definitely in again. I had such a great time at the last one that there is no way I would miss another!

Probably after Jan 1st, would be best, road weary at present.... but whatever is best for you and the majority of attendees should hopefully work.

If for some reason I can't make it I'd be inconsolable. I guess you guys would have to cancel the whole thing.

:4::4: Awesome guys, I really look forward to seeing you all again and sharing some woods time together!!!:4::4:

Sorry for my late response, it's been a busy day and I was just now able to log back on.

These meets are the highlight of my year! If anyone knows when dear season ends in TN that would be great to know. Last year we caught it right after dear season ended but small game season was still open which was great, I know a few of you did some squirrel hunting.

I'll be inconsolable if you don't get to make it too! I didn't get to spend near enough individual time with each person at the last meet. It's hard for me to do :3: but I fully intend to relax and not be so busy at this one!

@Tennessee is bringing my captains chair :4: and I intend to plant my butt in in. LOL

Our camps need to be next to each other so you can have coffee with me in the mornings. I use sugar cubes, it'd be hard for you to accidentally use salt in your coffee :dblthumb:

call me wimpy but I like it cold enough to kill the ticks and chiggers but not so you have to constantly protect your water. I'm good down to nite time temps of 20 but I don't mind it being a bit warmer in the day. add wind and it's a whole other story...

oh and btw, Tim, I'm IN!.. :4:

I'm with ya brother, I don't care anything about having ticks & chiggers crawling on me but prefer it to be above freezing during the day. Awesome, look forward to seeing ya again!

Count me in again (most likely). I really enjoyed the last meet and am looking forward to another.

    Thanks again, Tim!

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but are the meets open to any forum member?

Not a dumb question at all! Yes sir the meets are open to all forum members. In all the meets I've had I've only had one issue where I had to speak to a member "privately" about not coming back due to safety reasons. That person would be welcome to come back "IF" he brought no firearms and agreed in writing not to handle any firearms while on the property.

Especially since these are held on private property the safety of my guests is my #1 priority, my 2nd priority is to do all I can to make sure everyone feels welcome and has agreat time! The above mentioned incident was dealt with very quickly.

Thanks for the response! I made the move to East Tennessee recently and think I will have to come join you all. Would be nice to put faces to names. And to meet like minded people, of course.

I've been busy and stressed for awhile and have missed out on 'shrafty stuff. A meet up is just what I need to reset. I'll just wait for a time since I already know the place!

is there a confirmed date for this yet?

For you knife makers/experts... I would LOVE for some 1 on 1 time with ya. Need someone to show me what I am doing wrong when it comes to sharpening knives. I'll bring the stuff I use, well, all the non-powered stuff anyways. Maybe you could bring your stuff as well to give me some pointers???

There's always plenty of skilled guys at the meet that would be happy to help with sharpening.

There will most likely be several knife makers there and everyone is always super cool to take time to share with whoever wants to learn. It will most likely be the coolest & nicest group of folks you have ever met... seriously.
