For the last six weeks I had the privilege of wandering the USA, making my way between National Parks, Men Of Action, family and friends, and all kinds of interesting places. The bike's odometer logged just over 9400 miles as I passed through 25 glorius states on a journey I shan't soon forget. I won't attempt to chronicle over a month of amazing experiences so this will mostly be a mega photo-dump with some scatterbrained commentary. I'm sure my brethren will also chime in at some point... @pilsburythrowboy12 @field-expedient @ArmyMacE @Howie @Primordial Guys, thank you all for sharing the experience with me.

I set out on the 24th of July and headed south to Virginia for a visit with a Leatherneck who shall remain nameless. Yut, brother. From there I headed west to see the elucive @pillsburythrowboy. Our schedules didn't align for any dirt time but it was good to catch up. The gremlin slipped me some treasure unbeknownst to me and I was on my way west again. Oklahoma was home to another of my nameless comrades, no less noteworthy. Rah. Westward Ho and the adventure truly begins.

Through northern New Mexico and into Colorado
Camped at Trinidad lake and had my first really cool night of the trip. I think temps dipped slightly into the high 40's. I misjudged a wooden post, not completely awake I guess and snapped one of the D-rings holding on my pannier. Quick 550 cord repair. My tools came in handy for some new found friends from Texas. Their Jeep's front driveshaft U-Joint snapped so we uninstalled it and they drove off.

Mesa Verde captivated me for two days. The cave dwellings were simply amazing and I made friends with a Ranger of Native American heritage who's insight contributed significantly to the experience. This is where I really started getting used to the altitude too so a few short hikes and tours helped.

Sacred water, and the same type of source that sustained the cliff dwellers. Water permeates through the stone and gathers in locations like this.

The construction techniques they used show that these people were far from primitive.

After Mesa Verde I headed to Moab, UT.
Camping in the middle of the desert was an incredible experience too. One of my favorite campsites of the entire trip was in Moab.

I spent a day and a half hiking in Arches National Park. The terrain here was like nothing else I had ever experienced and the 110* heat was a lot more enjoyable than I ever thought it could be. I pounded water all day and carried my trinkets in my survival scarf. Even with all the water and fancy power snacks I consumed, the altitude and heat made me a little fuzzy at one point.

Some of the trails in Arches were nutty. Marked only by little piles of rocks, they clambered up steep, narrow ridges.

Glad you found your way to Utah.

Those rock piles are cairns. That's how the trails are marked especially out in the red rocks.

Headed NW through Salt Lake City. Camped on Antelope Island.
    Stopped in Bonneville
Met the coolest biker ever. Stu the Canadian real-deal. "No map, no plan. No hurry, no worry." I adopted this for most of the remainder of the trip.

White salt in the AM and then BLACK... Craters of the Moon National Monument in the PM.

After Craters of the Moon, I headed to Arco, ID. From there, I bombed through the desert off road for 47 miles to Atomic City. This was a wild ride to say the least. Atomic city is like something out of a movie or the game Fallout. Then, toured the first reactor in the US.

I took the self guided tour. I still have no idea what any of this stuff is.
    Enjoy

When we sensed the earth was starting to wobble a little to much on it's axis, I headed out again.

Weird snacks, cool river, snake sheds, tunnel of doom, what the heck are those nests, enter the wasteland.

Rode Hell's Canyon all the way past the Dam and back. Holy insane twisties. I was ready for a stretch of Oklahoma highway again after this winding madness. Lots of fun, especially on knobbies and loaded.

Things are starting to blur a little bit... It got colder as I headed NW.
Camped a few days in Wallowa Whitman Natl Forest.
I allowed myself to zone out, relax, and left the camera off for a bit.
A nice chilly downpour does wonders for getting the desert off the bike.

    Camped at Potholes Reservoir

This place provided an interesting experience. I heard the mosquitoes starting to swarm so I got in the tent around 8. They got so loud I couldn't sleep. Thank you Big Agnes for keeping me away from that. Then... as the sun set... everything went quiet and still. But after the sun was down for a while, the moon came up over the horizon. First, a gentle breeze and the lake started to ripple. Within an hour, the wind was fairly strong but the waves on the lake reminded me of a rough day at the beach on the Atlantic coastline. Waves so loud they kept me awake for a while.
