What a great weekend! I got all of my favorite activities in. I cut out of work at 11:00 am on friday and drove up to my stomping grounds in the PA wilderness. I hit the western end of the rail trail, which parallels a state designated "wild and scenic river" and biked 6 miles in, which gets you that far from the nearest road. I brought both Tenkara and UL spinning gear and periodically hopped off the bike to explore the stream.

This was one of the pools I found.

This pool and others gave up chain pickerel.

Though I tried equally with Tenkara flies and spinning gear, spinning tackle ruled the day.

I spotted a number of fallfish in a different pool and managed to catch one of those as well.

On Saturday morning, I attended an NRA High Power match, as I do on many weekends. This particular one was the club's annual "Medal Match". I ended up shooting my best offhand stage ever with a 198/200 and won the match with a 788/800. Woot! This was my offhand target, with 20 shots in a 3.5" group.

I hurried home from the match since three of my neighbors and I had taken trees down recently, and we all went in to rent a stump grinder that day. My neighbors had wrapped up on the first two properties and were starting on the third neighbor's stumps when I made it over with a rake. We hit my house last. In the evening, we all shared brewskies around a camp fire.

Today, my wife and youngest had plans for an event they were interested in. That left my oldest and I alone to enjoy the day. The weather was gorgeous, so we decided to do a float trip.

We spied a distinctive orange mass up high on a steep embankment. We beached our kayaks to investigate. It was chicken of the woods, Laetiporus sulphureus, as I had hoped.

My son scrambled up the embankment and filled a dry bag with wild mushroom goodness. They went well with our grilled steak dinner this evening!

We hopped out to target fish the hot spots.

    We caught a few smallmouths...

...and one largemouth. They were all small, but we had a great time on the water.

Since 6 hours of paddling and fishing wasn’t enough for us and my son has been itching to try a Serbian AK I picked up recently, we headed to the range.

Unlike the carefully aimed precision shooting I had done at the match yesterday, this afternoon we pretty much just did mag dumps into a bad guy target. It's fun to mix things up a bit!

At this rate, I’m going to burn through that first case of Wolf ammo quickly and will need to order 2 or 3 more soon. Part of me wants to pimp this thing out with a rail and red dot optic, but the other part appreciates iron sight simplicity and the wooden furniture. The bad guy target... He's dead, Jim.

At this point I’m worn out, but wanted to share the weekend's adventures before I head to bed. I hope everyone else’s weekend was equally satisfying. ‘Nite all.

If there was ever an appropriate use of the word jam-packed, this would be it. You managed to stuff a bunch of the good stuff into, what? 54 hrs? Awesome weekend!

Thanks for taking us along and sharing pics.
