Woohoo! And there it is, thanks to Guy and the other great members of this forum.

Us scattered Europeans who drink from the well of BCUSA knowledge have now gotten our very own little corner amongst the realms of this US-based forum. I am sure that there are many of you (like me) that are not necessarily living in the States but somewhere in Europe but just really dig this forum and especially its members.

I was thinking about getting these people together (after all, our distances between countries are relatively short). Not because there is not other platform to discuss BC in Europe, but because there is not other platform like this one - period. Who knows, maybe we can share good places to go to, and forge a friendship or two due to having our little corner here.

Ultimately, I'd love to get a BCUSA-Europe meeting/outing going, if things pick up enough here. But even if that appears far-fetched now, it's going to be nice to have this little corner to crawl in to.

Personally I have not the slightest idea how many (active) members here are from Europe, but I have a feeling that there's quite a bunch. So let's see where this goes :)

    Thanks for all the effort!
A Dutch thanks from Sweden. ;)

Btw. I read your previous thread about this. You are German, live in Belgium but work in Holland, right? Sounds like you are around the Limburg-area... from which I originate.

Yup, live very close to Maastricht. Don't tell me you are from southern Limburg too? If so, we need to meet up and this sub-section has already accomplished its first mission ;-)

    Cool!

We did have a mini-BCUSA Scandinavian meetup back in 2011. I wasn't a member back then, but a former friend of mine was and me, him and a few guys from Norway met up over a weekend. It was real nice...

    hello,
Well said.. great idea 'but' I prefer to stick with our Colonial cousins from across the Pond. Since joining the forum it has been well moderated & I've been welcomed. I'm happy to pull up a chair chew some fat & jaw with the rest around the camp fire, the forum even has 'subtitles' for us Scots so that our American cousins can understand the lingo :18: Thanks for the posting Nytraxs :3:
    Regards
    David

Yep, come from Heerlen, but lived all over the area; Maastricht, Margraten, Meerssen and Kerkrade.
Traded it all for the wonderfull province of Dalarna in Sweden 3 years ago. So if you want to meet up, you'll have some travelling to do.:4:

The Scandinavian subforum has pretty much died, actually.

Wow good for you man. How did you take the decision to leave? I am contemplating leaving Belgium/Holland too, for greener (read more nature) pastures. I just simply do not know how to start in terms of employment etc. I have too good a job to give up and just move away.

Currently, I am exploring options to move to Argentina, but those are still only baby steps.

I have been to Sweden a few times for work, amazing nature there. I envy you ;-)

And I am not adverse to any traveling ;-)

Never really had the feeling of being at home in NL, not really belonging there.
Then, after a vacation to Sweden and experiencing the sense of coming home for the first time in my life, it pretty well was clear from that moment I would move. But as always life got in the way and it took another 10 years, in which frequent revisits kept that feeling alive. The society and way of life in the Netherlands pretty much did the rest. At one point I got so fed up with it all, as did my family, we simply packed up and left. Yep, quite our jobs, sold or gave away most of our big stuff and just went...
A long shot, but one has to gamble every once in a while.

Sounds like you could have a story to tell there... If there's a European/Scandinavian meet I'd love to hear it. :)

By the way, do you ever visit utsidan.se?

Brother, I am full of stories... Some more true than others. ;)

I know utsidan.se, but that site is not for me. Just does not fit me at all. And we just might cook up a meet some place. Sounds like a blast!

Sunt curios daca avem 'bushcrafters' din Romania?

Would it be alright if former European residents joined in?

I think there is little chance, Ben.
There apparently is no interest. Every other European forum I used to visit is as good as dead, too.

It's only as dead as you all let it be!
I am trying to do a meet this fall in my part of the US, last was over 6 years ago.
As of today, we will have 4 attending, maybe 5.

Will we still meet? Even if only 3? YES we will.

Each of you will make this something, even if only a handful. And solid company of a few is better than none, yes?

Sorry to hear such things. Maybe start over, like the amateur radio operators group has? I can think of no one better to accept such a challenge, should you be willing to. You are a reasoned man, and civil also. Maybe @Beach Hiker would be willing to offer counsel and assistance?

You should message @Jason maybe if you are willing to take the reins of such a group. Perhaps start a new one?

These are just ideas I suggest, consider and do what you will. I say I am glad you are here, and enjoy what you have to say. I hope your injury issues are resolving also, or at least you are adapting well!

If you think this group is "dead", look at the one for "South Dakota"! (where I am)

One can be a spark in the darkness. If it becomes fire, great! If not, keep striking the spark!

Be well, and I appreciate your contributions here Ron!

You could make country specific threads in the sub-forum for finding people in your area where you have more in common and it's easier to get meetups and stuff like that started.

Make one in this sub forum as well with some kind of title like "The Netherlands Thread" and then post your call to action in there. Introductions gets pretty saturated with other posts so it would be easier for people to find the new thread by looking in the Europe sub-forum instead.

Perhaps more regional than by borders? A humble suggestion.

I love this online place ALL of us have, and I wish that you all not in the US have a spot with us. I have met 2 solid friends because of here, and one has now been my roommate for more than 2 years.

I cannot wait for the day I see someone from Hungary here, and can ask them about that part of my heritage!

I shall shut my literal and digital mouth after this. Groups are as active as ones make them. Go. Do. Even if an afternoon, or you meet for coffee briefly on the way to somewhere else as you travel.

Us people, of all nations and beliefs, that enjoy what we do, are small against the rest of the whole of the world's people.

Let ALL of us be the mouse that roars like a lion, even if only with each other!

May all of you connect with each other for the better!

USA leaves the discussion with me unless another jumps in.

Be well all of you, and get outside as much as possible!

    Thanks!
I think we misunderstood each other here. I was refering to separate Euroean forums, not the BCUSA-one.
BCUK I left, since there was little relevant info for me on there (often very much focused on brands and/or gear), same as the Dutch. The German one I was in went the same way, before ceasing to exist. (Due to internal rivalry I was told by another former member). The swedish one is all but dead, the Finns keep very much to themselves. I tried to create one myself, but since I specifically kept gearhoarder-threads out, never grew to acceptable levels.

I made a suggestion about more continent specific sub-forums and then inside those there can also be user threads that are either regional or border based. Just have to wait and see if it gets implemented.

Regional by weather and plants/animals makes far more sense than by borders. That said, current human borders by nation and such similar are easy to guess or look up.

I leave this now (no, really!), Talk more with each other, as much as you can. Meet. Go do things. Doesn't matter what, could be driving old roads from logging, sharpening knives, discussing packs. Learn each other.

Against the whole of humanity, we are a small but fierce tribe.

Looking for one of these. I have been carrying one since the 60's. There isn't much left of the pics on the front and back. Would like to get one that is in good t pass both on to my son. il_fullxfull.1017875619_m3m9.jpg maxresdefault.jpg
