Sounds like some good marketing. Iv'e never collected baseball cards but the idea is spot on, great promotion for the younger generation to get outside!

I used to have a baseball card store many years ago. I would buy Alone cards if they ever sold packs of them.

@Fowler, you have made it sound like you will be using some of the winning to pay off debt, hope you stay out of debt by making wise choices with what you have earned.

And start a AMA thread already :)...

Just some food for thought... With $500k invested, you could draw $2000.00 a month and never touch the principal and in fact, continue to grow the $500k. That's $2000.00 a month free money! ;)

I am guessing that the IRS got around 200,000 of that money. There may also be other taxes.

If you invest it you defer taxes. But they eventually do get you either way.

Good advice to get some solid financial planning. You'll be sorry if you didn't.

Just this past year of 2016 my financial planner did an YTD meeting with me. It was an exceptionally good year and my investment vehicles yielded between 31% for the lowest to 49% on the highest. This was similar to what I made when the market crashed in 07-08'.

Also I'd take advantage of max investment for both you and wife into Roth IRA and some college saving funds. Make those investments pay the $5500 each IRA contribution equaling 11k jointly. You'll be so happy you did this and it can also help your children.

Just wish someone would have advised me this when I was in my early 20's. It would have been put me much farther ahead.

If it were only that simple but the tax man wants his cut asap and will not wait for me to dish it out to him a little time. Not to mention if I don't build the wife a house I won't have a wife for long ;) no but seriously I am looking into all that as much as is possible investing for a better future for my family meeting with financial adviser Thursday.

I figured it would be like starting a thread in any other forum, but looks like you have to be some kind of special to start a thread here. Can someone help Fowler out? Pict's AMA thread has an excellent template on the first post.

Fowler, here, try this. First click on this, it puts you in the branch of the Media forum (where this thread is). The forum software could display several pieces in different places (depending on how you have it set). For me, on that page, in the upper right is a link that says "Post New Thread". Give it a title, and you are off.

Here are the suggestions from Pict's thread, they are just suggestions, you can say anything you like:

This is a thread for any questions that you have for "Alone" season two winner and long time BushcraftUSA member David "Pict" McIntyre. Ask him questions on techniques, equipment, experiances, mission work, etc.
There however will be no questions on Alone contest rules and legalities. All of those things are posted on the History channel and you can find them if you just take the time.
Update: Lets us keep it down to one question each.

At the bottom is a place for tags. This is optional, but will help people find it later. Some good ones might be Alone, History Channel, bushcraft, Fowler.

Below that are two fairly important checkboxes. Leave the first one checked, "Watch This Thread". It will notify you when there are replies to it. For me, the notification appears in the upper right-hand corner. The second one, "and receive email notifications" you may or may not want checked. That will email you every time anyone replies. That can generate a lot of email. I would recommend leaving it unchecked for now, you can change it later.

Or, let me know, I can do it for you.

Don't think the "post new thread" option is available for all of us in the Media forum. It doesn't appear for me here, but does in the Introductions forum.

I just got around to watching season 3. Can't believe I'm crying, but man, crying for Dave and Carleigh being forced to leave. They literally gave their all for this, and man... that was really gut-wrenching.

Well done, @Fowler , man. Really really well done. So much I have learned from this season. Feel humbled just to be able to watch these folks.

Yup. Discovery ran it during every break while I was watching something recently. Still having trouble reconciling Fowler driving a truck to his bush camp, though. LOL
