I sent out my resume back in early February (I had a phone interview last year which went well, but I was 17 so too much legal trouble). Did they make an official announcement for the casting call or is it just the email from the Want to be on Alone page on History's website? I sent a few copies of my resume since I kept getting a message that the current casting period was closed (for season 6 I presume which is still being edited.) As far as I know neither History of Leftfield entertainment has made an announcement yet for casting season 7, I winged it last time and just got lucky with sending my application during the casting period.

I saw it on an Instagram post from the History Channel. The email address I posted was from that.

    1. Would love to do it more than anything, be the possible first deaf contestant. Too much responsibilities here to take care of.
    2. Im too skinny to play. Barely any fat on these bones

Would you consider this a social media Outlet if you don't have Facebook or anything else like that?

I do but i doubt they do, the more social media exposure beforehand means more viewers

I don't have any legitimate social media besides forums so I sent them youtube videos, it worked last year since I got an interview, but then again they thought I had a very interesting character with my life, mainly my travels to Kenya, so that's what probably got their attention.

Also for anyone who sent their applications, did you immediately get an automated message saying something like "Hi there, thanks for reaching out to us, our current casting period is closed"?

A faceb**k or yout*be account would be a good thing for them to review you, your "presence" or skill sets. Unlike singing or talent competitions, they want to weed out spoof contestants.

Well, I need a lot of practice making videos. Made four with my cell phone and they all look like crap. I tried my trail cam, but it only runs for a max two minutes in video mode. Two minutes is probably about the right amount of time, but to get down to that, it will take a lot of planning. All sorts of issues with angles and sound and staying in the shot.

No. The email reply they sent said to practice making videos, and that the videos will be used to assess skills.

Just making a fire with a ferro rod is harder than I thought while I was trying to use the camera. You need three hands to scrape cedar bark for tinder. The phone kept falling over while I was getting sparks from the rod. And the sparks were not even in the shot, they were hidden by leaves. I need some kind of tripod or camera holder.

I'm still waiting for the "older than dirt" Alone where 12 old farts have to survive 24 hours in a Wal-Mart! I think I'd have a good chance at winning that one. :dblthumb:

Oh ok. I saw in one of Fowler’s videos that after the interview is when they ask for a video, so I was getting all excited for you lol. Yes. You definitely need a tripod.

I will be 59 in June, so if I make it to Alone, it could look a lot like that. What's the record for a tapout? 5 hours?

    Thanks! but not yet!

    [edit]

Not yet to the interview, but yes, I ordered a tripod and phone holder from Amazon. They will be here in two days, but I won't get the chance to record again until net weekend.

I think it depends if the Wal-Mart has a Mc Donalds or not! :33:

After a while you get very creative with holder for your phone. I have a number of utube videos with the phone just setting on the ground, sometimes the effect can be decent. I have a expandable clamp kind of thing that holds the phone and a cheese little tripod sometime I look up at the phone/camera and it has popped out of the holder, ugg. I think the mount is designed to hold a phone with out a case, as the case makes the phone fatter and the clamp thingy doesn't like it and spits it out now and again, sheeeesh. Keep at it.

Thanks. I could probably make my own camera holder, but I need something dependable and tested, and sooner. A bushcrafted tripod might even be more impressive to the folks casting the show.

I have never take my phone out with me before because I was concerned that I would just crush it while I was working. Less chance of that if it is on a tripod and away from me a few feet. Unlikely that I will ever be a YouTuber, but I can post my videos here until and unless I need to sign an NDA for Alone that says otherwise.

Just checking back, has anyone gotten an actual reply about setting up an interview? Last year I talked to Leftfield Entertainment so I'm assuming one would get the same phone number for the interview. (For clarification whoever you talk to via email figures out a date and time the works well with you and they call you around that time + - 30 mins,), my interview last year lasted a little over an hour. After which they ask you to film yourself doing at least an overnighter which prioritizes your skills and you characteristics, of which they want all of the raw footage, no editing whatsoever. Funny how besides my 30 minute long casting video there is only one other casting tape on YouTube for season 7, least from what I can find.

If you guys could donate some time out of your day to give me feedback on my casting tape (and my video teaching the Massai and Samburu the Bowdrill that I used last year and this year) that would be greatly appreciated.
(I don't really demonstrate anything important, just me being philosophical for lack of a better term

Haven't heard anything, but I don't expect to hear from anyone once they are contacted. They have to keep everything a secret until the show.
