i would like to set up and host a Fly swap. Leave it open for a couple weeks for members to sign up. Tie that set number of flies by a date. Mail them to me with return postage. I’ll break everything down so everyone gets one of all the flies and mail them back out. Haven’t picked a theme yet, but either thinking about trout, or warm water in the dry, nymph or streamer.
If you are interested let me know, and I’m open to your recommendations and I will choose the one with the most votes..

So to get the ball rolling on this one, This will be a simple 12 man /woman Fly swap. I will keep it open to anyone until we have 12 tiers or 15 July 2018, which ever comes first. You will h@ve until 15 August 2018 to tie your flies. When everyone lets me know they are complete I will pm my address to you. Include a self addressed envelope with postage ncluded and I will return your set of flies to you. However you want to do the postage is fine. In the past I included $5 with my flies to cover the return postage.

The theme for this year go around is Trout Flies( dry, wet, nymph, streamers etc......

That’s the good thing about Fly swaps, the bigger they are the more you have to tie giving you more practice on the fly you choose.

I'm game for trout flies. I find panfish like them as well, so best of both worlds.

Thanks for the tag in primo, I'll tie one on. Do Kebari count towards trout flies? I'm new to tying but I'm ok.

yes they count. Rather new to Tenkara myself. Traditional flies work just as well on Tenkara rods and kebari will work just as well on Fly rod.

Let me know if you change your mind. Speaking from 40 years of experience tying and fishing it take patience and practice to get everything down. After all those years, I still have issues tying traditional dry flies. Hence my selection of attempting one for this swap. Practice practice practice, we are our own worst critics.

    You are in!
I’m going to start tying this weekend. Will post pictures. Maybe include step by step instructions as well. Going to start with 12 flies. Can double up if we don’t get 12 tiers.

Tied up the first four just now. I’m not satisfied with them yet, probably end up tying a couple dozen before I get the 12 that I will submit. Lol

Most of the flies I tie are for bass, muskie and inshore saltwater species. I’m afraid they might spook some poor trout to death lol. Fly swaps are a ton of fun. My favorite thing is getting to see all of the different styles of tying that people use and do. Anxious to see some pics of this swap :dblthumb:.

Don't let that stop you. I catch some big trout of big streamer patterns. Many years ago I clued in when I started catching big trout throwing big streamers while fishing for pike. Most people don't realize just how big a fish large trout will feed on. At the same time I don't want to tie a dozen big articulated flies for a swap.

I agree, I have used wooly bugger, Briminator, smaller clousers, foam beetles and grass hoppers for trout, bassand panfish. I would say anything size 6 or smaller would be suitable if you want in.

Oh yeah, I've hauled some big lunker trout out on huge patterns before. Sometimes the only thing that gets the big ones out of their holes.

Exactly! Often you can get a predatory response from a fish that isn't feeding. Similar to the reason you don't run from a bear. Sorry, not trying to get off topic.

I think I'll tag in with some killer bugs. They're not my best, but probably my most consistent trout fly.

Thanks, I'm being critical of them since they're mine, but I could be a little more consistent. Not too bad since I'm still under thirty or so flies tied lifetime total.

Mrs. Kimber is tying up a dozen of her Fleetles, and a dozen of her regular beetles. I'll send them to you Mike. We are on vacation and could probably get these tied tomorrow in between golf and fishing.

I’ll jump in on this if you’ll have me. Really enjoyed the last swap I participated in.

It’s pretty unconventional as a trout fly but I’ll tie up a dozen of Brandon Bailes’s Minnie Mouse patterns. You wouldnt believe the VA native trout we’ve caught on these things.

I would like to participate, if possible. I am new to fly tying so my flies may not fit a formal pattern but I will do my best with a barbless size 12 hook. Is that ok?

This is a totally shameless copy of a fly created by Brandon Bailes/Panther Branch bugs. He’s got some crazy tying and fishing skills. His Instagram has some great photos if you’re interested in fly tying, patterns, fish, etc.

I cast this one on a 3wt or 4wt with no problem. It’s caugt Brookies, LM Bass, SM Bass, bream, crappie and the list goes on...

PS I sure hope y’all let me in on this exchange...

We have one more spot to fill unless @werewolf won wants to take it. I’ll wait until the 15th of July for that last slot to fill. flies are due by 15 August. This weekend I will sit down at the computer and PM my address out for you to mail me your samples with a self addressed return envelope and postage or cash to cover return shipping of your set of flies.

I believe for my bonus pattern I’m going to tie up either a Briminator or a Rio Getter in as size 12. Not really a trout pattern but they work for trout as well as bass, panfish and carp. They imitate a damsel/dragon fly nymph.

Received @WRHC TopGun tiny mouse pattern today. I have used this fly before, today in fact with my 4wt that I just built. Same fly just n all black. The great thing about this pattern, you can cast it with a 2wt as well.
