Hello everyone... I am trying to connect with the members in and around my area. Eventually I would like to get a meet or two in this year with those in my area that would like to do the same.

Look down at the bottom of the home page.
There you will find a list of states.
Click on your home state and maybe there are some meet ups close by you.
    Hope this helps!

Nothing appears to be going on or in the works at the moment... Anyone have or know of someone who has property that could be utilized to wild camp? That would be of great interest to me.

I live in the middle of the Shawnee. You can camp anywhere in the Shawnee National Forest, of course. I'm out regularly, you might try planning something in the Illinois forum and see who shows up. :)

I don't know what the bushcrafter population is like in southern IL, but in northern IL we have about 4 or 5 regulars. Mid IL has a bit larger group. When we camp near Rock Island we get a small turnout with few traveling north for it. When we camp down around Peoria the turnouts are much larger. In other words, if you plan an outing more in the middle of the state you will probably have a better turnout. I have a current thread going about something down that way at Sand Ridge. You would be more than welcome at that.

It's true, we in the Shawnee are many hours drive away from most of the population of Illinois and it's usually a big ordeal for those from further north to drive down here for a night or two camp. Illinois is a long state, it can be easily a 5,6,7 hour drive for someone. That's a lot of driving for a weekend trip. That being said, of course folks come down here all the time too, we've got so much worth coming for. The River to River trail beckons throughikers on a regular basis. You might even have more luck expanding your search to the states closer than northern Illinois (so, Missouri and Kentucky and Indiana). I have several friends who come up here regularly from Tennessee too, it's half the time driving than someone coming down from northern Illinois! We're pretty isolated here which is great for many reasons, but can be tough if you want a crowd. I'm usually successful in getting a small group though, say 2-5 folks at a time to make a meet. I'm good with that.:)

I am in Illinois about 45 miles upriver from St Louis. I can host a fair sized group here, I am waiting to see how my Spring and early Summer schedules out is the only thing at the moment.

I am up for what ever. I am just starting out and just want to get out there and meet like minded people. Also I am looking forward to learning a thing or two from others.

I will keep an eye out for more northern outings, but I am looking forward to something down at Shawnee. It is a beautiful area and well worth the drive... just saying. :)

Yes. Have some woods, a stream, a few places to pitch tents and some reproduction longhouses to sleep in here as well.

This camp site is in the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, which is just on top of the Shawnee NF. This is on the north end of the lake, and the south end is bordered by Shawnee and Giant City State Park.

I'm from northern Illinois but my family is from Pope, Hardin and Saline counties. I hunt quite a bit in the One Horse Gap and Iron Furnace areas.

If you have a get together let me know. I would enjoy the company, I haven't been able to locate anyone who enjoys buschcraft camping. If you don't mind a seasoned citizen! Thanks! I live in Greene county.

Just want to spark this thread again. Looking to get a trip planned sometime early next year once spring is upon us. I want to start planning now so anyone interested has plenty of time to plan. I am open to suggestions on location. I am sure there are others in the southern IL area that would be interested, so hit me up and let get to planning this outting.

There are some good spots near cedar lake closer to carbondale that I like. The jackson hole/falls area is great too but can get busy with rockclimbers depending on the weather.

    Google Maps

Theres also parks like Fern Clyffe and such. Not overly familiar with the far east side of shawnee

Far east you have garden of the gods, the lusk creek area but most of that would be hike in camping, Bell smith and burden falls area.

Hello everyone... just want to see how many canoe and kayakers are in the area. For some friends to go out on the lake and explore and possibly do a night or two out on the lakes tailwaters. Carlyle lake that is. Let me know. I recently got a canoe and have been out exploring finding good stops to stop.

By tailwater do you mean the river below the dam or the north end up by Vandalia? Either way I've got a canoe and a kayak would be up for the adventure. Always wanted to get out on the north end of Carlye and paddle around.

We gotta meet up at the lake and go for an adventure. Maybe tomaco access. Close to the head waters and as far north on the lake you can enter without being on the river. About a mile paddle from here to the river entry or nearest island.

I am just checking to see if anyone in Southern Illinois would like to meet up and do a paddle on Kaskaskia River at the north end of Carlyle Lake.

Let me know, either reply here or message me seperatly.
