I want to make some tree straps for a hammock chair I am getting set up using this general method:

I'd like to use approx 1/2'' mule tape to make two 6.5' tree straps, then use smaller diameter cordage between the webbing and the hammock chair (like in the video). I'm not a huge fan of that generic 1'' nylon webbing, and I think mule tape might be a better option. The only problem is that I can only find mule tape in giant spools. Anyone have a lead on buying it by the foot?

If it falls through, let me know,I have quite a bit.
I also use it for Hammock, be advised it is very slick.
    Knots will slip.
I wash mine and leave it outside to weather a bit.

Can't speak for every lumber yard, but my former local Ace Hardware in LA used to have spools of it for loading stuff in their yard... the yard rats would give you 'extra' if you asked for it. it was initially kind of stiff, but softened up quite a bit with use. I think the fact that their logo was printed/inked/painted on it had something to do with it.

That info might not help the OP, but might help someone else down the road.

Pathfinder website sells it too. I couldn’t find any at Ace or Home Depot oddly enough.

Dutchware I think carries it by the foot.

EBay has it in different lengths and sizes.

Working around construction and new developments I find it in the dumpster or discarded in a wad near utility boxes.

Considering the knot restrictions, I would seriously reconsider mule tape and use a poly rope.

What are the knot restrictions? I found some mule tape (thanks @R Stowe !!), and it seems to work fine. My knots are holding.

I work at an electrical supply house and we sell various sizes in buckets. I thought about going in on the cost with some friends and splitting it up 4-5 ways as it is pricy.
