Hey all. Come one come all to the Arbuckle Mountains! (thought that might get more attention than saying Oklahoma ;)) Google it, you'll be surprise at what you can find in OK>

Time to get a 2018 get together set. January 5-7. We'll be gathering at the back lake of YMCA Camp Classen again, but at a new site at the far side of the lake. Fishing is catch and eat, and as a side project I'll be cutting and debarking poles for a big ole teepee. One night I'll provide the meat...venison backstrap anyone?

Fellas, give a shout out to our Texas crew. I met a lot of guys at that San Saba meet, and for the most part never got their forum handles.

If you're out of state, I'm happy to do an airport run.

This spot is within hiking distance of where we're camping...just no water right now lol.

That's gorgeous! Oklahoma is a bit far for me. In the spirit of sharing the local pride and joy! This pic is my favourite swimming hole on a island not far from me (calm day and steel nerves it's doable in a 12 ft aluminum and outboard).

I’m going to try to make this trip! Few questions: is this car camping ( parking somewhat close)? I’d like to bring my boys 6 and 7 so that plays a big part in pack out. What’s the weather like around there?

P.S. I’m Shaun ( the one who made large amounts of coffee at the in the mornings) One of those TX guys who’s handle was gotten.

I won't be able to make it... again... Life of a nurse...

Squatch, whereabouts by Tulsa? I'm in that area myself and would love to meet a fellow local bushcrafter. You can PM if you don't want to publicize specifics.

Very cool man. For sure, bring the family. I'll bring my kiddos (9&11) Like @fire65 said, you can pull right up.

Hope you can make it! I'll get directions and whatnot posted soon.

Dude...we'll make it work sooner or later. If you have any dates in early Feb that work message me.

That's it! I need to redo the map for on campus directions, but I'm starting my WFR training tomorrow, so will be pretty tapped out for the next 9 days...80hrs to knock out, but I'll get it up around Christmas.

I’m on the tail end of a complete house remodel and SWMBO has let me off for a local trip tomorrow thru Thursday but I’d be hung by the neck if I took another trip so soon with so much left to do.
I won’t make it to this one. Maybe next time.

No worries! Totally get that. My wife will make at least an appearance, might even stay the night. My kids will be out a lot as well and probably spend the night. @Lurch655 are you and your family going to make it? Don't remember right now...

Let me know what you need cold gear wise for the kiddos. I've got some extra stuff, including sleeping bags.

It looks like the usual crew will mostly be here (5 of us), and 5-6 coming in for the first time. Should be a good size group!

I got a hammock, wool blanket, 20F / 9F sleeping bag and 15F pad. Should I be fine? Would be first below 45F night.

Since your close enough to my area I know what the weather is like I suggest if possible do a back yard test hang just to make sure. I have spent several 30ish nights in my hammock with my wool blanket doubled over as the "pad" and my current USMC issue sleep bag which is my TQ, YMMV of course. But I suggest pad then blanket under and the 9F as TQ and layer thermals (clothing) appropriately.

Appreciate it and I'll keep it in mind as I really would like to bring them, its all based on weather and how they're feeling, with the 4 (only my boys would come, the girls, 10 months and 3, are a little young to still have fun that cold) of them its been a revolving door of colds with the crazy North TX weather and the always present school sickness pass around.

Sounds like a large group as of now. Smokey are you planning to move to the other side of the pond? I promise to have a big enough fire to keep us all warm. I also have some extra gear if anyone needs anything.

I would want not expect to anyone to plan around me but the last weekend in Feb or first in March are ideal times that I’m looking to do another weekend long trip (as of now).

Google Map should take you right to the spot.

If you get lost, just give me a call/text at 330-234-0727. If you get on property and an employee asks who you are, just let them know you're with Ben, aka Smokey (They know me by both names).

This is a YMCA Camp, so please be respectful, they're being super generous in letting us camp here at no cost. On campus speed limit is 15mph, even on the back roads we're traveling, so please stay at that. These are one lane roads with blind curves, so be aware.

Turn left onto property at the main gate. Big YMCA Camp Classen sign, hard to miss. White fence.

At the second intersection, stay left. It's sort of a Y in the road. You'll pass a couple of gravel parking lots, then come to a yellow farm gate with a stop sign. Head on through. Near the top of the hill there is another Y, bear right and head on down. Signage says '89er Village'.

in the north corner of the parking lot is a brown gate, then a creek crossing. If you're driving a sports sedan, give me a call and I'll come get you, everyone else should be all right. Straight out through fields until you see the lake, we're camping in the field closest to the lake.

Hey all. just an FYI, we'll be keeping the yellow gate/stop sign locked this weekend. Text me at 330-234-0727 and I'll get you the combo code so you can get in and out.

Debating. I got a bit of a cough. Considering coming up for the day at least. Is it friday to sunday? I did an overnighter last weekend. What's the roster look like? The next meeting, I would suggest turning on the RSVP feature on the post. :)

Yup, Friday thru Sun. You're welcome to fit in whatever works for you! I think the flu season is kicking several in the butt. Right now it looks like at least 4-6 might survive health and work issues lol. It's some glorious weather right now though.

    That's a bummer. Sorry man.

We had a great time. Sat was pretty warm. I'll see about getting an actual report up later today.

Just set up a get together for Feb. You can check it out HERE. If you can't make the Blue River Meet in Feb, stay tuned, I'll put one up for the first weekend March soon to give you all more planning time.
