Brother, I just received a knife from them that's almost to pretty to use. I have an identical mountaineer with micarta that I will beat on instead. I have matching firesteels for all three of my AS knives, but I tend to use others that go out with me while camping and whatnot. I keep the matching ones as an emergency fero rod I guess.

I try and at least festherstick mine lol I use all my fire steels.

As pretty as they are, I think Cody and the whole AS crew would be disappointed knowing their knives are just display items instead of the the ultimate tools they build them to be.

As dbltap mentioned they are epoxied in, we have not made customer-replaceable firesteels [yet]. However, if you wear one down to a nub, send it in. We'll either replace the rod for you, or make a new firesteel handle all together. All you'd have to c0ver is the cost of the firesteel rod (I think they're around 8 bucks for a 3/8 x 3).

Thank you! I use my firesteel and my knife. Comes back a mess. A little love and it looks almost as good as the day it arrived.

I'm the same way with my AS firesteels (and knives). Almost too pretty to use. Love these knives.

I made my own sheath with a firesteel loop, but my firesteels aren't nearly as nice as theirs, so I don't mind using them.

I've made a few firesteels to match some AS knives. I made the firesteels removeable so you can use them all you want. @EldestFreeman owns most of them.

I think they have some you can replace but most of them are glued in. Prov 27:17

awesome this is very helpful to know I'd wondered this for a while as I'm currently saving up to be able to buy one of your knives unfortunately though the price tag on them is more than fair given the craftsmanship it's just outside my budget at this point in my life but mark my words someday I will own one of these beauties :)

Keep an eye on the trade blanket I've seen some really good deals on AS blades there before.

The key to these matching ferro rods is only use them when you are out camping etc., not for the backyard bbq or just messing around. Use a cheap one for that. Same with the spine, becomes dull. The rod should last a long time.

You can use a heat gun to remove the firesteel from the handle. Then you can reglue a new one in. I replaced mine with a 4" one, using a hot-glue gun to reinstall.
