I can’t have them at all in Ca, but I’ve been writing everyone and signing everything I can.

If every gun owner in america did the same, for every single thing these morons come up with. They'd never be able to “ban” anything

My biggest grip is that politicians like to focus on inanimate objects rather than the cause of the violence.

As I've said before, banning suppressors make about as much sense as banning motorcycle mufflers.

    Done.

If the idiots in charge knew what they actually did and weren't wandering around in a fantasy utopia they would probably require them on everything instead of banning them from everyone. I don't want that either, just the choice.

Allowable for purchase with exception, not legal. You still have to register like a criminal to possess and use one.

I meant to hunt with. Isn’t it pretty much treated like a firearm. I remember arguing with someone that they just reduce the noise of the gases and not the projectile, and that they shouldn’t believe that the movies show the real thing.

No, you have to be fingerprinted and have National (and international(?) background checks, have your photo taken, talk to your sherriff or police chief for each one you buy, pay a $200 tax, keep your card with you at all times, cant let your family use it or be in posession of it unless you are right beside them. Cant take it across state lines without permission/notification to BATFE. In the paperwork you have to basically forfeit your 4th amendment rights saying you realize they can come check your stuff at your home any time they want. Which basically forfeits several other rights.
That's before any hunting regulations are 'imposed'.
All to own a piece of metal for hearing safety.

It should be treated like bubblegum at the grocery store.

Thanks for the info I knew about the tax but that other crap is ridiculous. I bet the ones who came up with the law got all their knowledge from the movies.

Started in the 1930s. They said it was to prevent people ("mobsters" probably) from owning full auto or sawed off shotguns, and since the depression was in swing the suppressors were thought to "allow for poaching".

Then as now, it was really to regulate the common man from owning them. Criminals could care less about laws. Criminals, mobsters, poachers are willing to kill and steal but they are worried about what the law says?

They didn't even make the (tax) stamps then, and even if you could get one the $200 we pay now was the same $200 they had to pay then, which equated to approximately $3,500-4,000 back then putting it out of reach of the average person. To put that money in perspective-
    20190614_203044.jpg

It was all about gun control of the common man, and has been since. Its UnConstitutional as well.

That's asinine. That's just a way to indirectly ban them by making them harder/less desirable to get. As far as search, to me, if they showed up at my door I'd say let me get it out of th safe for you. They need to see the surpressor, not everything else.

It is not as bad as you mentioned in post #18

LEO Sign off is no longer federally required on suppressors.
(The Feds still do their background check.)

Fingerprints only have to be done if it is not a trust.
Even if it is not a trust you can do them at a kiosk in the store instead of going to the PD.

You only have to keep a copy of the paperwork with the suppressor, not with you at all times.

And here is a summary about owning a NFA item and the 4th Amendment

Someone on here last year sometime, end of year I believe, mentioned they were trying to get their LEOs signature but the police department was always closed when they went for paperwork.

Ive never been interested in doing a trust.
You still have to be fingerprinted like a criminal and basically provide a mugshot (passport photo), both of which go on file and international database.

I meant keep a copy of the paperwork with you all the time while you have/use the suppressor. Mine is the size of a DL and laminated.

The 4th Amendment thing isn't something I heard, there's a box you have to check/initial on the Form 4 which mentions it. I remember reading it. With a warrant? Probably supposed to but who knows with the ATF.

All ridiculous and Unconstitutional and still basically treated no differently than a criminal except you don't have to wear cuffs or go in a cell. No other natural rights or Constitutional rights do you have to submit to that kind of scrutiny or to exercise, much less to buy hearing protection.

My understanding has always been that the paperwork simply documented the transfer of the suppressor. It isn’t a license so it doesn’t have to be carried with you regardless if you have the suppressor with you or not. You keep a copy in a safe place as you would any other record. Having a copy with you may not be a bad idea but I don’t believe it is mandatory or a condition of ownership. Perhaps that varies state to state.

Its a tax stamp and proof of ownership. I guess they could take your suppressor and you could go to the police station with your paperwork and hope they took care of or could find it, or understand the law and don't want to refer to the ATF or whatever. I was told to ALWAYS keep a copy of it with me when I had or used my suppressor.

Probably a good idea to keep a copy handy but it would be good to know if it is mandatory or a suggestion. People don’t carry receipts for guns around to prove ownership either.

You’d mugshot / facial recognition is already on file with the Feds...

    It’s called a drivers license.

    Criminally fingerprinted?

Getting fingerprinted is much more common than you think.
Civil Servants, persons with DEA numbers (MD, PA, some RNs) I had to be fingerprinted for about dozen jobs that I worked or applied for.

Had to be fingerprinted for my pistol permit...

IDK if carrying paperwork is mandatory or not. I was always told to carry a copy by my dealers.

I think it’s one of those things that is a good idea.
Keep you from a headache but not required.

So criminals don't get a mug shot and fingerprinted?
Sure you had to get fingerprinted for your pistol license, another unconstitutional act where as an average citizen you have to be treated like a criminal to exercise your rights.
If its not ridiculous and unconstitutional then why are we signing the petition? I did but shouldn't have too. We aren't even talking a firearm in this case, but hearing protection.

Every time I sign one of those, the only thing that happens is I start getting a bunch more spam. If they have a stand set up where I can sign a petition I'll sign it, but they aren't getting my email address anymore. Nothing will happen until the people have had enough of letting the govt. decide which of our rights they will spoon feed us at their leisure & vote someone in who not only respects, but will honor & fight for the Constitution. That or starting another revolution to restore our rights to what they should be are about the only 2 real solutions I see anymore.
