    @NJHeart2Heart , @ChocolateSpatula? , @SarahsBushcraft , other Nj, Pa girls I might have accidentally skipped over

My schedule is crazy busy but we all need to get together this summer so I am thinking about a girls get together in August.

We can invite the guys but hey there is a ton of strength in girl power. We can each focus on a Bushcraft lesson and have a nice weekend

    Wharton state forest
    Bodine field

Bodine is primitive with just pit toilets that generally have spider friends in them but it's right on the water
    http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/wsf-bodine-map.html

UPDATED:::: Reservations have been made. Wharton state forest, Bodine Field.
    Spot 11 August 3rd thru 5th
Check in is noon on Friday
Feel free to spend the night or swing by for the day.
We are right on the creek so fishing and wading to keep cool are doable
Going to post pictures in a couple of the spot. It's honestly a huge site

And thanks to @Luchtaine,@Pastor Chris ,and ,@t.darrah we will have have tenkara to try out on the creek as well.

I should be able to make it but will know better as the month gets closer. I've loosely created plans to go to CA.

I camped at Atison before and the only way to get to the the the trails I wanted was either through the cabin sites or along the road. Needless to say, I'm nosy, and peeked in every window as I trampled through the unoccupied cabin areas. They were pretty nice digs.

I'm not big on cabins but I'm happy to go along with the majority. :)

I do the same thing when I go to campgrounds, peak in unoccupied cabins.

And that's exactly why I've set things so far in advance. Summer is crazy busy for everyone and vacations especially to CA are definitely worth missing a get together.

    Great idea MommaJ!
I can mark those weekends off for sure. I like cabins, but frankly I need the experience doing at least real tent camping, if not total bushcraft tarp camping... I'm also a fairweather camper at that but I'll take my chances... or maybe I'll rent cabin nearby... let me look into your choices for sites a bit more.

I'm not capable enough in my bushcraft skills to go showing off my skills to others, not to mention trying to teach something, but I'm happy to learn from you all, and even happier to practice along side you and just have some fun :)

Hmm.. also just realized I have a cousin that has done a bit of hiking/camping.. perhaps I can finally get together with her via our weekend, if that's ok? We've been talking about it for a couple years, but never did it. She's a bit south of me in Jersey, so that might be an extra motivator..

It's all good. I doubt any of my skills are strong enough to teach without a book in front of me. But it's all about having fun.

Just a note, the pine barrons is very hot that time of year. If you do the cabins at the lake you can swim. Goshen pond primitive sites are near the creek and have dirt road all around. Batona campsite has a couple of trails around it. I live just down the street from atsion.

That's exactly why I was thinking bodine with a creekside campsite . We can cool off if needed in the creek lol.

    Are the cabins are conditioned?

Your lucky to live in the Pine Barrens.

If I remember correctly no, the cabins are fairly primitive, no water or plumbing.

I wonder if we did a cabin, if there's enough room on those sites to pitch tents or hammocks if we chose to rough it...? @Monkeynono can you speak to that?

I WANT to tent came (I REALLY want to do the overnight!), but because I'm inexperienced with camping, if the weather turns foul and I'm not as well prepared, cabin might be a good backup...?

But then again, now that I have my Trucklet (Honda CRV), I could theoretically hole up in there if I needed extra shelter from weather...

Most of NJ campgrounds do not allow you to have a tent set up at the cabins. But honestly I think we will be fine if the weather turns. I can bring my larger tent and share if the weather turns bad.

Now come to think of it.. doubt it would be a problem as it will likely be warm and I could put a big 'ole tarp above my tent for extra wet protection.. which in itself would be fun to do :D:D Go PRIMITIVE!

Heya! Thanks for the tag :)
What a great idea! I'd also like to make it, but not sure if I'll be around in August. If I'm still here and hopefully things are a little less crazy on my end, then definitely! (Also, if I can find a ride up there)

@NJHeart2Heart I'm with you on bushcraft tarp camping! That's something I definitely want to learn asap! Surely there should be some space to practice near the cabins, even if we don't keep it up overnight?

Hiya @ChocolateSpatula? Love that name :p
I'm sure we can practice tarp setups no problem.
I admit I'm a bit of a camping wussy.. I always sleep cold, and have chronic back problems... So I'm a fairweather camper:eek::oops::rolleyes: But I NEED to get out there and camp more! I want to become more comfortable..

I made the reservations just to guarentee this particular spot. Lol its huge and can easily fit 4 tents, and 2 hammocks. I didn't end up reserving a cabin as it seemed most are ok with a primitive spot.

And if no one can end up making it that's ok. I totally understand life and schedules. But if that happens I will be forced to make my kids join me so I can pick berries.

Alrighty pictures of the site. Sorry pic is dark

A couple miles down the road you can launch a kayak and float down to camp and snack on blueberries. Hence my earlier comment lol

If I get a fishing license, can someone offer advice? I have a basic pole and bits but would need a good mentor, and guidance about what if any special equipment and bait I'd need.. (and I don't eat fish...!).

The only bait I used last time was worms and I just used my regular pole. I have no problems sharing equipment. The fish were caught was small enough that were just tossed it back

But I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how to add an RSVP to a post. Can you help out with that?
Lol I kept pushing buttons till I found it.

@MommaJ Where is our spot in relation to parking? It is walk in? If so, how far? I was all excited that I had ordered a new tent back on June 28th, only to find out YESTERDAY that it is backordered until MID-August. Sooo disappointed in my first order with campsaver.com..
Soo.. it looks like I'll likely be bringing one of my current tents.. Just want to know if I can overpack, or if I'll need to be a bit more frugal to be able to carry things between car and camp spot.

You park exactly where you camp which is sooo nice as I have a habit of overpacking myself. Like I am currently thinking of bringing THE TENT 10x14 canvas monster as my cot does not fit in my 2 man tent and well the 4 man tent is just not as pretty as THE TENT lol

@ChocolateSpatula? I was just rereading over everything and if I do not use THE TENT I might try out a night in a wool blanket under my tarp just depending on how buggy and muggy it is.

    Hiya @MommaJ .
I took Friday off, so I'm heading down there relatively early, and my plan is to stay through Sunday. May take me a while to get down there, since I'm north.. have to try to get driving right after morning rush hour, so I miss that, but get down there before the shore crowds start driving that awy. I'm excited. I just picked up and will be trying out a new tent, testing my hammock and hoping that my back holds up LOL (will probably be living on pain killers by end of weekend- already been a bad last week or so).

I definitely want to do a nice hike at some point. I want to really take in and enjoy the landscape/environment down there. Didn't really get to do that last year, and don't remember much from my trip with hubby down that way many years ago.

I'll be bringing some very simple meals: eggs, pancakes, burgers and dogs, mac n cheese for dinner, and... marshmallows :) I might also try a type of campfire pizza I saw used at a Boy scout weekend I was at in the spring. We'll see.
Assuming it will be warm if not hot, do you have any suggestions for keeping things cool? I'm thinking foam coolers with lots of frozen water bottles, but even that won't last all weekend... Can do meat Friday, pizza/ pasta Saturday...
Do we have any others coming for sure? I will bring food to share, but will be catering to my picky palate ;)

    @NJHeart2Heart

Great news all around. My best friend is joining us as well and she is going to be the saving grace with ice ice and ice

Current plan is to load up my cooler on Friday with drinks, ice, and hamburgers. Then on Saturday she has to work till noonish and will be returning with new fresh ice.

I think right now its you, your cousin?,me and my best friend Lisa.

Food wise I have burgers for friday, kielbasa for Sat,and eggs for breakfast. I'm a picky eater myself or I will be living in the potty.

Pain wise I will be right there with ya. Do what I can and keep my meds near by. If it is wicked hot we are right on the creek so soaking is always an option. Hiking wise there is some trails right at the campsite but also some nice areas a short distance away.

@SarahsBushcraft ,@ChocolateSpatula? ,any other nj,pa girls coming along

Yes, Jill is my cousin, though she's not responding to my messages so haven't confirmed with her. That's ok. I'm excited even if just you and me.. and Lisa :).

Ahhh. You reminded me..gotta pull out my crocs and/or water shoes.. Got two lists going..food and non-food :-D

Yeah..don't want to spend whole weekend in potty...that would be a shame! Speaking of... Any primitive facilities or am I going to learn a new skill? LOL!

They have outhouses and a port a john. Not the best of options but certainly better than heading into the woods. And Lisa sells scentsy so she has promised me the port a john will smell nice lol

This is a girls trip so certain luxuries are to be had not to mention wonderful car camping so no worries about lugging luxuries for miles and miles on our back. As such my camp coffee maker will be coming with us and my battery operated fan.

Nice... either of those are better than the woods LOL!! hehehe.. Scentsy.. I know that brand.. too funny! I like car camping, because I've done so little overnight camping it gives me a chance to try new things while not worrying about not having a backup plan!
    yaaayy.. gonna be fun!

Do you know if there's campfire wood readily available (for purchase is fine)? I'll pick up a bundle or two on my way in if I know where to go. How much did the reservation cost?

Firewood is available to purchase down the road at basto village. I plan on picking up a couple bags when I check in for the sight.

As for finances I have to look it up and get back to you.

Sorry, I've been pretty busy. I was in CA that weekend. I'm so horrible at keeping up with plans. I should've penciled it in on my schedule as a tentative so I would remember it but I didn't. How was it?
