Lools great and that is so very cool @Kelly W !

I know just what your saying here!

"Thanks so much! I don’t care who you are, but if there’s an axe with your name stamped in it then you just gotta have it :D"

Making progress on the Norlund Hudson Bay hatchet I'm working on. I've got lots of thinning, and shaping to do yet.

Its gonna be much smaller, and a little ornate compared to the other stuff I've made. The head will be blued with polished cheeks. Hope it performs as well as I imagine it looking in the end, lol. Proof's in the pudding.

Is the lumber you use for your carved hafts dried? @americanstrat98. Thing I've noticed about some beautiful hand carved hafts is time and lack of humidity change them and not often in a good way.Your project there is looking good.

The heads are cool, but these old handles are where its at. The lines are a little exaggerated, but man they handle well with the CT 3.3 heads. Mine is 26" and it is the sweetest middle weight I have.

Hey @Forestree i thought you would get a kick out of this...

Sorry I know its not an axe...however the axe with your name on it started from an axe and this kinda relates to that axe story...confusing but trust me, its a circle.

Here is one, of which needed little be done. A recent holiday present to myself.

I know it's not an axe or a saw, but this pair of Fiskars loppers is a really excellent product, made in China or not (they are).
Much more effective than the longer, non-geared pair I recently bought.

Couple new ones at Glacier Pace:
    IMG_20190829_133711.jpg

The Plumb is...epic. Don't mean to gush, but I've been after this pattern for years. I'm really pumped about it.
The Bridgeport BSA hatchet is another one that's been on my bucket list for a long time. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go with wood or micarta scales.
Because of the needed relief bevel the scales require this one will likely be a winter project, as I'm getting backed up again with projects, and probably won't have time to set up my ghetto router system, lol. (Looks a lot like a Dremel...)
Anyway, things are cooking again in the GPB laboratory!
(GPB is Glacier Pace Benchworks, copyright pending).

    @Ptpalpha

Knowing your skill level I sure suggest you put pretty wood scales on the Bridgeport. I'm confident it would look way better than new.

I also understand your excitement for the National as well. These are smooth chopping machines. I'm on the hunt for a three & 1/2 pounder or so to help balance these two. The little one is a victory.

Those two are beautiful. I just love this pattern.
I agree that wood is the way to go on these. I'm considering splitting a cast-off haft to make the two pieces, or possibly going "all in" with some black walnut I've been saving.
Projects like this are awfully fun to plan out and accomplish... I look forward to them so much sometimes I feel like I should be focusing on more important things.

Nah. Happiness is the important thing!

This one turned out nice. 2-1/2# True Temper cruiser, regrettably for a buddy, lol.
I just finished the mask, so no outdoor pics yet, but I have to say... I think I'll be trying to buy this one from him.
    Turned out pretty sweet.

Both have had their bit cleaned up, sharpened and polished, as well as handle reshaped for a better feel, scraped, sanded, burnt and oiled. Just waiting on a friend to pull his hives so I can get some nice fresh wax and give them a good coating.

I found this Collins 3.5 head at a local flea market for $5 and had to take it home with me. I wanted to try something different with the handle and ended up staining this 36" handle. The bit had been reprofiled slightly thinner and now it will shave some leg hair.

I picked up this Artisan cruiser for $10 at a flea market at the antique tractor show. The handle was in good shape. I just had to sand the shoulder of the handle and add a wedge. I sharpened it but a few chips still on the edge to work out. Before and after pics.

    That cruiser is sweet!
I picked up this cute little pocket axe today. Once it's out of the vinegar soak I'll see if I can find any markings.
Unfortunately my scale took a crap so I don't know the exact weight.

It's just a cherry wedge I carved to fit the kerf in the handle. I kept the old handle sides of the kerf even though there was some material missing on the front and back of the top of the old handle. Since the friction is on the sides against the eye it shouldn't matter as long as the wedge fills up the rest of the space. The boiled linseed oil turned it dark. I also sanded the top of the new wedge and old handle to 400 grit to make it glow lol.

    Excellent and thanks.

I see the cherry now and I wondered if the dark sides were from soaking in BLO.

Its a real looker, great job

Pulled the little pocket axe out of the vinegar before work this morning, and after a quick brushing this is what showed up:
    IMG_20190905_112742.jpg

I'll pull it out tonight and clean it up and see if anything becomes clearer; right now I'm at a loss on the mfr.
    Any ideas?

Here is a neat little Walters. Whole thing only weighs 21 ounces. Can't imagine the head weighs more than 8.

Lol it's my Mom's so it doesn't ever get use. I'll have to try it out though cause it actually feels really good in hand and it's now crazy sharp. Now you got me thinking what it would work well for lol
