I decided I'd get out for a walk in the woods this morning. I headed up to a regular spot where I search for wood. As I have plenty of wood left over from Pastor Chris's carving event last week I thought maybe I'd look for some sheds, there's a group of 8 to 11 bucks I usually see hanging out together around here.
A cherry tree I've harvested from before.

Found some of the boys, still wearing there antlers...

    Garlic mustard, invasive and delicious.

Wood ear fungus. apparently edible but I'm not sure what I'd do with it. Any suggestions?

An expired deer. I found the full skull about a month back when it was pretty fresh. It was probably hit on a near by road.

I think these are mock oyster mushrooms...
    Could anyone confirm?

After walking around for a while I sat down for some coffee and to take a picture of the sharps I brought along.

I was sitting around for a while editing some photos on my phone when my attention was taken by this deer. He was about 20 yards away staring right at me stomping is foot. By the time I had my phone ready for a picture he was turning around and then ran off.

That's all! I'll have to go check again in a few weeks.

Nice! Love it when deer come that close... any wildlife, actually... makes you feel even more like you're part of it.

Nice pictures, I like the deer shots. I have abundant deer sign around my stomping grounds but rarely get a look at any. Probably because the dog gets ahead of me and scares them off.

I didn't. It's funny I've seen it a few times and it never occurred to me to take it. The first time I stumbled across it it was very fresh, still hade some fur and flesh. The top half of the scull was attached by muscle and was topped with a nice pair of antlers. I set it aside and figured I'd come back for it but the top half went missing.

Maybe next time I'm up I'll grab it and try some kolrosing on it.
