Fathers Day knife build and swap. It would work like this: you can start now.. knife must be finished and ready to ship by June 14, 2019
Anyone interested would make a knife out of scrounged materials (steel, and handle materials)Pins/bolts could be bought at the hardware store as well as scrounged. Anyone participating would enter by posting 'I'm in' and post up a build along with pics by editing their 'I'm in' post as they go. To keep the thread organized everyone would keep their build along to a max of 10 pics which is the max allowed in one post.
Once ddirt7one, everyone would trade their completed knife with another participant.
It could be a fun thread to watch as well at take part in and anyone can participate. No special skills required, It could be your first knife or your 1,000th knife.
What do you guys think? Anyone interested?

    Hell yes! I'm in!

    Giz

Ok...here goes. The blade material came from a two man buck saw. Blade was ruined and missing the handles. 5 dollars at a yard sale last Summer. The steel is 3/32" and hardened already. Its spark tested great. So I cut a sliver of and brought it to bright yellow in the forge. Quenched in water. Break tested it and it broke like glass.

Here is the chunk of blade the knife was made from and the initial design.

And on to the vertical bandsaw to cut out a blank.

Black G10 and brass pins.....set it up for a lanyard loop.

I'm going to be using the sheepsfoot style blade shown on the right, forged it out of tractor tine (I was told it might be 5160, and it hardens really well)

Here it is. The blade is a hair over 2" I forged it from a tractor tune, it's been hardened and sharpened. The handle is deer antler with a wine wrap. The blade has been secured with Devcon 2 ton epoxy.

I'm in! Glad to see you back at it, hope everything is good to go for. Alright fellows lets get busy and make something cool! 100_0394.JPG I'm giving you guys and girls a choice, option A on the left is a file knife blade with an antler handle, or option B on the right which is a piece of Caulder from a potato farm. it will be dressed with a nice hardwood handle.let me hear it
Sorry fellows but I'm going to have to withdraw my back is acting up

I'm really going to have some fun with this one. Going to go old school and make a blade out of a 30" buzz saw mystery steel knife. @ x39...

I wish it wasn't limited to blades. Really like to do a modern half hatchet that can out limit a blade.

    Outstanding...thanks!

They are overlooked. And truly close to a one tool option.

    I'll do it proud!

A lot of guys have been asking about half hatchets and how they are made. Essentially, they are made as a crossover between a hatchet, a Carver, and a knife. The trick is to get them to perform well....with each function.

can you post a pic or drawing? I think of a half hatchet as a short roofing style hatchet with a relief for your hand when you choke up on the handle.
now you have me wondering. o_O

I’m in. Thinking about a ullu this go around.

I drew out the pattern 4” cutting edge. Will make it out of 1/8” sawmill blade. And I have sow scrap cherry, mahogany, and walnut. Haven’t decided on which one to use yet. Will probably get it roughed out and annealed today more to follow.
    9F6822B9-8990-4B91-8B73-335D3DA45492.jpeg
Anealed, cut out, pin holes drilled and working on the edge. B6D585C2-80D1-44D8-849D-30003AADDC55.jpeg
Edge complete heat treated, and tempered.
    36E0CF5F-7A43-4229-B88E-64DD5C1E089A.jpeg
Now I just need handle it, clean it up and sharpen it

Handled with some red cedar, copper pins. Clean up and sharpen it up. Also have the leather sleeve cut out glue and stitch, dye it and then lol be finished up with it next weekend..

Is this one sharpened on the bottom, or is that just the polished regrind?
If sharpened, it would give you a tracker-esque half round, although if your hand slipped up there...
