Im in! I participate in several KITH (knife in the hat) deals through out the year on forums and Facebook. Glad to see one here. When we do ours on Facebook, we take the list of finished knives, randomize it and each maker sends to the maker below them in the list, last guy sends to the top man. Simple and easy to keep things matched.

Yes sir. List randomized via random.org Simple. One thing I might mention, if we have folks from across the pond or Canada participating, the knife they might be set to receive could be illegal if it is larger than their allowed size.

    Well, thanks to mention it.
At the canada border, only federal law applies: no butterfly, no hidden knife(like in a cane), no assisted opening ones. Thats all. Shouldn't cause much problem.

Size is no problem. We can ship swords. Size here is only a problem in municipal rules for knives you carry.

I wasn't sure, so I thought it appropriate to mention. Also, if you ship a knife outside of the US do you guys put anything specific on the claim form to keep flags from being raised?

After looking at the names on the list, I'm going to have to step up my game.
I don't think my little primitive shop made knives are going to "cut it"...o_O

And it's the 1st! Sign-up is now closed and the building begins!

Sometime soon I'll start a main thread so we can add our builds without having as much clutter as this thread.

It's gonna be a good time for sure!

What we are gonna do is everyone does their knife and at the end I'll randomize the list order.
Everyone will send their knife to the person listed below them on the list and the last person will send their knife to the first person. Kind of like musical chairs.

Hey man, don't be like that. I personally would rather recieve a knife made by someone learning than someone who already has everything 'down perfect' any day. There's something really cool about seeing folks learning the craft and figuring things out in their own. Even if it doesn't come out 'perfect', 9 times out of 10 the guy who is learning has put much more time and thought into his knife because it's something he wants bad. The experienced guy doesn't have to try all that hard or put much thought into his project because it's down to muscle memory. It's all that extra thought and time that makes the first blades so awesome. We all gotta start somewhere and that is at the heart of why I started this project this year. I wanted to motivate folks to get into the shop and give it a whirl.

So don't be discouraged and have fun!

    Truth, right there!
Most all the stuff I build is done on my kitchen table or the couch! Messy stuff like sanding I try to do outside, but I've not had a garage or shop area in over 12 years.
I did rig up a connector for my vacuum to attach to my 1x30 belt sander. Keeps the wood dust out of the peanut butter.

My steel isnt annealed either. This was a leftover from bar stock. The two bevels are not the same. Just messing around with different grinds. After i took that photo, i think i kind of destroyed everything to see how far i could go. Funniest part of r.a.d.

Is it taboo to use an old knife, i.e. Old hickory etc as my starting material? I have zero forging experience but can wield a grinder with the best of em. This will be my second knife.

That is the point of 'blade scrounging' make something usable from something else.

These were my last two, one was an old chefs knife and the other was a Mora I ripped the handle off of.

Let remember guy this is a bushcraft form, I'm there there are a few of us that can turn out a show quality knive but thats not was this is about. Its about learning and perfecting our skills. If it comes out looking like its made in a backyard thats awesome I'd be excited to get something like that from someone, if it comes out looking contest quality then thats cool too but thats not bushcraft to me. If you guys with less knife building experience have questions on something I'm sure others here are willing to help out. Also there are some great how-to video's on youtube to build a small inexpensive forge if you need one.

Plus, apartment complexes get super butt hurt about open fire sources and NEVER mention oil quench tanks. That's a door you do not want to open!!!

You wouldn't believe how the landscapers freaked out when I tested some machetes and stuff on downed branches after a storm a while back. Sheesh!

I hammered out a piece of 3/4" wire rope today. I will begin some shaping tomorrow. Shooting for a 3-1/2" blade length.

I haven't seen it yet. I'm saving my photos for when it does. I've already started!

I hope whomever gets the one I make is good at sharpening because I suck at it. I can't even sharpen a good factory made knife. I will do my best though.

Haha. I built a forge the other day. Somebody is going to get a crooked, grossly misshapen chisel with pine scales. Should be fun!

Nice. I'm going to have to rely on reshaping, handle mods, and my slight experience with leatherwork to make up for my lack of a forge.

I plan on building 2 at the same time... One to practice on and one to send out. I will promise to send out the best one;)
