Please tell me I'm not crazy, months since my last sighting.

I was holding my phone lense through my polarized glasses, there are nine trout to be spotted here, but none bigger than center bottom screen.

Embankment is 9'+, water is 6'-8' deep, I am 6'3".

Please tell me I'm not crazy...

Not crazy, even if I can’t see anything in the video. Will look at it again once I wake up and get a couple cups of coffee into me.

Definitely not crazy, that bottom one looks like a brown but it's hard to tell. You should go catch them to confirm they're browns.

There's really only one way to be 100% certain - send the GPS coordinates. I'll bring a frying pan. ;)

Just like real life, you spot the first one and the rest pop out at you.

Oh I knows theys browns.. They're stacked up in the flow, this is a tough pool to fish with tenkara. Deceivingly so.

    :D :D

Two cups of coffee later, a Mountain Dew and viewing on my iPad instead of my phone can see them now. Definitely not crazy. Well maybe a little, lol just for different reasons.

I know, crazy for not restringing and "letting fly"....

Backstory; beginning of last winter I peeked over the edge here after a different approach than normal and found myself staring at a single trout in that hole. The biggest trout I've seen in that river and certainly the biggest I've seen in person. It was sipping the surface but there were no visible insects.
I dropped a pheasant tail upstream that was ignored.
I dropped a black and white Kebari that was ignored.
I dropped a House and Lot that was ignored.
It mouthed the black and gold wooly bugger but spit it out AS I lifted for the set.
Tail fin disappearing under the snaggle upstream is the last I saw of it until yesterday.

That certainly played through my head last winter and again last night while I was planning my SMEAC for the assault.

The two biggest are side by side middle of the shot, next to the bank.

How about the screenshot, do you see it there?

Heading out shortly, I fish while mama covers nap time!

    Today was a beautiful day.

Everyone decided to get out in it and hike. Especially the dogs.

The big boy's pool was occupied by a couple of black labs when I got there. :(

Nevertheless I managed a few trout in the harder to access areas.

Sneak out in the evening....browns are nocturnal feeders and the big guys often let their guard down under the cover of darkness.

If I were going to fish that pool with a teknara rod I would tie on the heaviest recommended tippet for the rod you're using. Then I would tie on the Whistle Pig from the Traveling Fly Box using a non-slip mono loop knot and saturate the fly before approaching the run. I would cast upstream at an angle ahead of the fish and raise the rod tip slowly, a couple inches at a time, twitching the fly along the bottom.

My goal is to present the streamer about a foot in front of the fish you're targeting. For the streamers presentation think of a crawdad or sculpin caught in the current, scooting along the bottom. With several feeding fish its often a race for them to see who can take advantage of the big meal first.

Then I would either be left smiling as I landed and released a nice fish or I would be left thinking "that should have worked". If it didn't work I would change the presentation speed first then possible change the depth and angle (possibly directly upstream or directly down stream). If it still didn't work I would try the Bouface next starting with the first retrieve.

I'm not implying that only the flies I included will work. Every fly in that box would work just as well as any other. I'm just recommending what my first impulse would be if they weren't feeding on the surface. Most of us go to our confidence flies first or in difficult conditions. If they were feeding on the surface, the approach I mentioned would probably still work, especially in shallow water, but I have a hard time not fishing dries when fish are feeding on the surface.

Keep us updated and good luck!
