I am torn between which of these two knives to purchase. Which one is best for bushcraft or camp tasks like feathersticking? I know the 103 is designed for skinning, which I do not plan to do, but it looks like it might do a solid job at other tasks too. The 102 looks thinner but that might make it better for nore precise carving. Advice, opinions? Thanks!

I don't have either but I do have a 119 and I am thinking that given the choice, I would get the 102 myself. Just sayin.

102 is more durable than the 103. The thin grind on the 103 is what makes it great for skinning, but very fragile. I own a 119 myself, but I got my father a 102 a year ago and he loves it. It gets a lot done for the size. Essentially it’ll do what the Mora Companion does, but it’s stronger since it’s got a full tang and phenolic handles. I highly recommend the 102.

    Thank you, Wil and Enzo.
That's very interesting about the blade of the 103.
I think that I'll shoot for the 102.

The 103 is a skinner, I would go with the 102 but you may want to look at the 105 it is just a little bigger but still quite managable.

@LostViking is fond of the 102 and Bucks in general.

I do not agree. The grind on the 103 is not that different from the 119 or 102.

I think the 103 is a much better all around knife than the 102.

And the 103 is a great skinner. It’s the Nessmuk Buck!

Yes, I also thought of the Nessmuk, which is so cool, but in the final analysis, not being a hunter, I need a fine carver rather than a skinner. The 102 seems better-suited for the kind of wood work I foresee myself doing. Someday, when I have tons of extra cash :))), I'll acquire a 103---it looks beautiful!
