I was able to get out last week for an overnight with the improvised pack I had made for Bushclass. I took the Gibson Necker along on this one as well it's a great blade.

I packed up and headed into my woods for the night.

I took the above gear along with my belt kit, ground pad, and wool anorak.

I got up to my camp spot and set up for the night.

After setting up camp I did a little journaling and some nature observation. Spotted some hawks and crows and a few robins. As well as some squirrels back in the pines. There are quite a few nests around.

    Some rough spoon carving.

The squirrels were dining on these Hickory nuts. I picked up a sack full of these not too long ago and they are really good this year. Allot of work but well worth it.

    Some more cool lichen.

Some dried berries from the winged sumac.

    Some more fungi.

This was a quick but fun trip out. The weather that day was great there was a little light rain that night but not to bad. I saw a good bit of wildlife on this one mostly birds and squirrels. I did see a big old eastern cottontail late that evening. The old coyotes woke me up around midnight though yelling and carrying on but other than that I slept well. This was a great trip got to test the Gibson see some cool stuff and spend some time outdoors.

Good stuff! I saw jelly fungi just like that on my trip out last Saturday. I haven’t positively ID it but read they can be pretty hearty even in cold. I hope you’ll get as much use out of your JG neckknife as I have mine. I wear it pretty much daily.

Thanks, buddy, I need to get out the guidebooks, I am decent with plant and tree ID but need a good bit of work on fungi ID. I have heard the same about jelly fungi seem to be all over around here. I hear most are edible but as for taste not very palatable. I am really enjoying using the JG necker great knife I plan to make a few mods to sheath this weekend if I get some time. May add a loop for a Ferro rod. Thanks Again, buddy.

I carried a ferro rod with a bike innertube on mine for awhile but recently I started using a Wazoo fire starter necklace on it. That way I always a ferro rod and usually another in my bag. I like mine so much I think I’m going to ask him to make me a stainless one for summer fishing and kayaking.

I've used the innertube on other neckers for that purpose as well works pretty good, but I may try to rig something up with leather, not sure yet. I like the Wazoo FSN may go that route. JGN that would be nice to have SS version I do allot fishing as well so that would be really handy.

Yeah mine has got some rust spots on it after particularly humid days on the water. I’m thinking something a bit smaller than my current one and maybe his style that’s almost a wharncliffe but with a small belly near the tip.

Terry, I used mule tape I had double up. I took the mule tape off the pack and used it as the ridge line for my tarp.
