Do we have more info on site and what we'll need to bring?

I'm not too bad a cook so I'm willing to provide a meal. Is there events? Friendly competition? Trade blanket?

I like the idea of bringing out our basic bags and doing a "dump and talk".

@FIELDCRAFTLTC, want to see if it's not to far for @alukban? Al, if you meet me at my place I'll drive you the rest of the way.

Hi all, great thoughts, loving it. Im trying to get clarification from the ranger on a couple of things. They are not open for camping, but we should be fine with using the fire pits. As usual, I think its good to ask. I camped here last year and know a couple of spots we could meet up at. Please leave a message below if you are (or are NOT) interestes in walking in some way from the main entry way.

    Cheers,
    Mogster

    Where are we at boys?

I'm in for drive up or two heel track in.
That depends of course on my load out.
@MOGSTER, is there a chow plan in action?
I am willing and able to feed some folks, but if I'm doing that I'd prefer to drive up to the site.

I also have some event type stuff already fleshed out from a previous under attended event.
Two confidence activities and a competitive team based activity with a prize.

If you want to collaborate or discuss anything please feel free to PM me.

    Hi all,

I will be getting to Wells State park around 10am on saturday. I will be bringing my snow shoes and a pulk to pull in some gear. Ill be setting up my tentipi tent and will have a wood fire burning through the day.

Im not entirely sure where I'll be pitching up in the park, so Ill come back to my car and leave a note on the dash. Pending cell coverage I will also post here.

    Hope you can make it.

    Cheers!

How's everyone doing? That winter storm wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I'm excited for the Bushcraft Meet Up on Saturday.

    Here's what I have planned.

Here's where we are going: https://www.mass.gov/locations/wells-state-park

Meet in the parking lot at the Park HQ. Use this map: http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dcr/parks/trails/wells.pdf

Weather is going to be 40's with clouds and low chance of rain: https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/Sturbridge+MA+01566:4:US

The gates for the loop around the park might be closed from vehicles. If so, we will park and leave our cars at the main parking lot and will walk to a location to set up for the day. I scouted this site out last August, but we should play it by ear based upon any remaining snow.

I will be brining a large nordic tipi tent that I'll put up.

There are grilling stations for us to cook on. I'll bring a gas grill just incase the availability of dry wood is an issue.

My plan for the day is to practice some bushcraft, have brews, cook some food and chat with folk.

    Thoughts for you:

    1) Pack clothing and gear for cold possibly damp weather. Possibly still snow under foot.

    2) Bring water, food, personal one-day cooking kits.

    3) Bring items for trade or sale. I'll have a space set up and we can trade, barter, swap, sell gear, products, stuff.

    Excited to meet with you!

@CivilizationDropout check out the trail map links above. We are probably going to need to park in a main parking area and the hike over towards a spot over by the lake to hang out for the day.

Any idea on how deep the snow is?
I'll be post holing if it's too deep... :D

I'll be packing up tonight, baby life has kept me from preparing before now. I'll have a few items for the trade and a pot and supplies to do a take on some Roman legionary soup.

    Went well today, I was too busy to be camera happy. That's good for me but bad for your perusing, but here's what I got;

    Beautiful day

    IMG_6048.JPG

    Made a pent teg mallet

    IMG_6049.JPG

The Persian Birler and wire saw were the culprits for that endeavor.

Nice big tent set up courtesy of @MOGSTER

    IMG_6058.JPG

I made Farro and bacon soup

    IMG_6056.JPG

    Going crazy representing!

    Failing the bow drill

    IMG_6083.JPG

Used the Persian as the bearing block.

This guy was on my gear all day

There was general gear discussion but not much of the dumping. A little show and tell on some items but for the most part gear stayed in the bags.

I just noticed the title of his Blog said "May 2018" but the post was a review of the one they just did, which was March. You are right - he also talked about planning for their May meetup so yeah, it could have been on purpose, but it seemed the title would be dated for the meet up they just did. No worries, just figured I'd mention it :)

Your both right. I was tired and confised my self. In the march blog post i was writing to promote the may one. So, I could probably go either way.
