I'm finally getting around to replacing the handle on an old Camillus knife. While I recognize the potential historical value of the original, the visible rust beneath the handle was more than I could bear, and I could not find enough information to validate its history.

All that being said, I'm wanting to find a replacement for the original "nut pommel", and I'm not having any success.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a source for acquiring a replacement. I'll probably end up having to contact Camillus directly, but figure it was worth a shot to ask here.

It's a molded pommel, through which a nut screws onto the threaded end of the tang to secure it.

You can see the nut on the threaded end of the tang here

I'm guessing your pommel is bakelite? The one reference I've seen online calls them rare. If you want a plastic one, it may be possible to cast one from resin and then machine it.

Let us know how it comes out. Looks like you're off to a good start.

Are you looking for the actual pommel or just the pommel nut?

I think it would be difficult to find a pommel unless it was scavenged from another knife.

I have the pommel nut; I'm looking for the actual pommel, as the original is in pretty tough shape. It will work, but I would prefer to replace it.

I contacted Camillus, but they've been acquired by another company with no ability to help with legacy product. They did however direct me to some company in Camillus, NY that supposedly may be able to offer some assistance; they've not returned my attempts to contact them yet.

I believe you are correct, based on my own research of this knife.
