    Edit: Okay date is set and information is posted below (see post #14). More details will follow. Any questions just post up here or you can pm me. Looking forward to it!

    Title says it all.....anyone up for it? I'm good for whenever for the most part....just need to set a date and make a plan. I know most of y'all are probably more thinking about hunting right now and maybe we could combine the two depending on what the date/plan would be. We could do a canoe camp out at coon point, backpack camping, camp here at my place, car camp out on the national forest or wherever. Anyone interested?

    This is open to everyone and always good to meet new folks

    Rough timing... Have some last minute stand prep stuff to do one day this weekend (but not adverse to a trip... I can do it after work one night next week, or tomorrow). But bow opener is next weekend, and I get to gun hunt on private land the week after that (in zone 3/8). That's probably my best chance to kill a deer all year. I'm in NY (27 SEP - 11 OCT) camping with my daughter on her Fall break (first time in 4 years) and on my own (in my new Chestnut canoe!) around Columbus Day weekend...

    After I get back, it's regular gun season (14th), but later in October would be ok. I like Coon Point, I like the KHWA (maybe not this early in the deer season though), and I like your place, especially with the KNF full of hunters. Tobe and I can squirrel hunt.

    If you all need to go without me that's ok too. There will be other chances for me.

    I was kind of thinking about doing something within the next month or so, but I'm open to doing more campouts as the weather starts getting cold....best time of the year! Thinking for this one maybe car camping at a primitive campground would be a good place. We haven't really done many car camping trips in the past couple years and might allow some more folks to make it out. Guess it's that typical thing of setting a date and place and making it happen.

    @Hammbone Alright cool!

    @Seeker Sounds like you've got a lot of nice plans....I'm sure it'll be nice being up there and camping with your daughter and out in the canoe and such

    I'm in also. Work is kinda crazy now with all the hurricanes. I have that elk hunt at the end of October into November. I would definitely be down for some Squirell huntn at your place, I just got a new 22 mag that would be perfect for
    Your mile high trees
    I'd be into some truck camping as well. Let's throw some dates around. I just gotta play it kinda 1 day at time for now but with enough notice I could probably make it work

    Cool, well Oct. 7 is opening for squirrel I believe. We could do a campout here at my place or there's some cool car camping spots on the national forest as well. Course you know camping at my place is a 3/8 mile walk or atv ride.....my atv is broke down, but I can still walk :D

    12 years ago when my wife went into labor on opening weekend of Squirell, I tried to get her to "hold off a little while "... let's just say I can't make it that weekend. She had a few more choice words for me, but I'll save that for the camp fire:56:

    @Nonc-Tobe Haha :D

    The next weekends after squirrel opening is the start of deer hunting....course I don't hunt so those dates don't mean much to me except that lots more people are showing up out in the woods. The weekend before squirrel season of Sept. 30 would be a good time to be out before the crowds invade

    The weekend of Sept. 23 sounds good to me as well so let's just make it official - Friday Sept. 22 - Sunday Sept. 24. There's some really nice dispersed sites in a lesser used part of the national forest that are accessible by car. You can google maps "Kisatchie lookout tower" and they are within a couple miles of there. The lookout tower is where you'll want to turn and it's on Hwy. 117 between Leesville and Provencal. It's also just north of my place for those of you who have been here. I'll get some maps posted up after while. Only problem with picking one site is that it could be taken for that weekend, so I'll mark 3 of the nicest spots all along the same road and we'll be guaranteed to get one for sure. I'll put up some kind of identifier on the road so everyone can find the spot. It'll be primitive camping meaning no water or toilet. The ranger station is only a few miles away and has water and flush toilets in the campground out front though. Good cell service with ATT....not so much with verizon. There is a dirt pit right near all the campsites where some folks shoot

    This is the sign you'll be looking for on Hwy. 117 to turn west (other side of the highway) onto FR 350

    [IMG]Untitled by Tom Roo, on Flickr

    Site #1 is about 1.5 miles down FR 350 and then .5 mile down a woods road.

    [IMG]Untitled by Tom Roo, on Flickr

    Site #2 is 2.1 miles down FR 350 and about 150 yards off the road (no picture)

    Site # 3 is 3.4 miles down FR 350 and right off the road

    Nice. If I get something during the previous weekend, maybe I'll make it... and I'm still trying to convince myself that I could just come out Friday night and hunt Saturday or Sunday...

    It's called a black pot! Just ask Nonc-Tobe, you ain't in Mississippi boy :D We can do some figuring on food and group meals are always nice. Will probably bring out a barrel smoker and figure out something to cook in it :33: Guess it'll all depend on the number of folks that show up. Was thinking that making this meetup more accessible might bring in some new folks....not that I don't enjoy the company of y'all that have posted :54: I'll probably be out there by noon on Friday. Might stay out there Thursday night as well, or at least get a tarp setup to try and stake our claim. I really like site #1 and am planning to be there.

    Cool, come on out! Yeah, only a couple of us will be there on Thursday night at this point. I've gotta work that day but planning to be out there around 5 pm or so

    Weather is looking really nice with highs in the upper 80's and lows in the upper 60's and small chances of rain. Got plenty of oak firewood to cook with and keep us warm :D Probably gonna set up a group tarp shelter just in case of rain....it'll be good practice if nothing else. Gonna be good times and looking forward to it!
