My bride of 50 years and I drove to Galveston Island today. We have two days reserved at the Holiday Inn resort. And to make things perfect, it rained like I was Noah. It is 60 miles from my house to the Galveston Seawall and it poured the whole way. I mean it was a four star turd floater. Accompanied by 25-30 mph winds. The parking lots had small craft warnings posted. There were 3 ft seas coming ashore. It was almost as terrifying as our wedding day!

Congrats. 50 is a long time. :) All of my marriages don't even add up to that many years. :18:

Had lunch at a Tex-Mex joint, got a bottle of Yellowtail Cab, the front desk agent got us a nice room looking out over the beach, and we stayed in as advised. May check out Shrimp n Stuff for dinner tomorrow, though.

Long ago I ate at a place that was down on the water front. Fishing boats bobbing outside the window. Had a stuffed flounder, to die for. OMG. Have one for me.

Congratulations on your milestone. We went to Galveston about a month ago, the first time we had been since hurricane Ike. Looks like they did a nice job of rebuilding it. Enjoy your stay. Send some of that rain 150 miles north, we need it.

Hey there @CSM1970, from Cascadia! Congratulations on you both for your shared achievement. It takes a lot of love, skills and patience to get where you are. Hope the weather in Galveston cleared for you. I was 8 years old in 1961. My grandparents had taken my siblings and I to Galveston just before Hurricane Carla hit. we had to leave before the storm hit. So glad nothing like that happened to you.

It had been 20 years since we had been to Galveston. They cleaned up the beach nicely. It used to be littered with tar balls and dead jellyfish. Thursday and Friday were beautiful, though.

Years ago I liked to look
around on the internet for surplus federal real estate . This probably about 2000
or so . There was a coast Guard base for sale that looked like it was ocean front .
It was a ridiculously low price it seemed
    but still
a sizable chunk of change . 100k to 200k somewhere in that range . Thought about taking a closer look
at it . It looked old enough to
have survived the hurricane of 1900 that destroyed Galveston .

Congrats on the 50 we are at 52 now .
Rocky start but I think we’re gonna make it .
