Made my first knife today from an old circular saw blade. Didn’t anneal it and drilling was really hard, but came out ok in the end for a first try.

Yep. This was a fun experiment, although i prefer an oval handle.

Made this one for a bladescrounger swap last winter.

Thanks! I traced the handle on my Condor Bushlore and then let the belt sander dictate the form. I miss that knife, sent it out as part of the blade scrounge rs build and exchange.

IMG_20171214_200556045.jpg Pair of matching knives for a friend for her husband and his brother. Dark walnut, recycled steel, brass, and stands for them to sit in. Engraved the fellas names in brass tags. A little "brute de forge" blades, which can mean either "got lazy and didn't want to sand out", or "I actually do this on purpose". All in the eye of the beholder.

I built these pair about 10 years ago. They were my first homemade knives. Stock removal, O-1 steel. The knife is 1/8", and the hatchet is 1/4". I've been meaning to build a combo sheath with firesteel holder and baldric carry , but I'm not sure how to do it, and not have it look awful.

Homemade sheath and homemade knife! Dull and scratchy because the metal isn't quality enough for me to spend time making it perfect... honestly just wanted the practice for the handle! Learned a lot.

Made this big ol bastard awhile ago.
Designed it with my dad, and cut it out on our water jet.
Turned out pretty nice, ended up selling it off.

Thick ar500 armor steel, epoxy paint, carbon fiber scales. Sawback and draw knife built in. Fun stuff! IMG_20150109_165823490.jpg IMG_20150109_200215833_HD_edit_1420859809163.jpg IMG_20150110_111933704.jpg IMG_20150110_132115351.jpg IMG_20150110_132159939.jpg

Hey, @hidingpool, does the rebar hold an edge? How did you quench?

It's a medium carbon, decent edge, doesn't roll. I do have to touch up the edge more often than high carbon. I've carried the one on the right as EDC for the past six months with no real issues. Water quench, no temper. this guy explains it better than I can. https://norsespirit.wordpress.com/tag/rebar-knife/ Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure I saw a flint and steel striker that @kcardwel made out of rebar. He said some was high carbon and sparked when heat treated.

Just finished this one today. Made from a miter saw blade with walnut scales and brass pins. Scales finished with BLO and paste wax. Blade was heat treated and tempered. I was really pleased with the way the handle turned out. I wish I had used a better quality steel.

Here's one I made from a sawzall blade a while back. Handle is deer antler with a G10 bolster. I wanted to see how well these sawzall blades really work for a knife -- and I think it worked damn well! Took a great edge but they are very thin. So this is a sorta 'bird & trout' style knife. I used a Swiss made blade bought at Lowe's, if I remember right.

Here are my first two that I have completed. Both are 1084 steel. The top one was my Otzi knife I did and bottom was the first blade I've ever started that took about 1.5 years of evolving with it and time between work sessions

Mistakes, sure. Do I like them? Heck yea!

@Vpetrell nice knives! Really like that Otzi blade.

I've been beating on my first forged file blade to see if it's going to hold up before I put a handle on it. A little prying, battoning and shaving. image.jpeg

How's the pith on them? Did you have to clear a lot of it out?

    Greetings,

Thank you @Grayson for creating this thread. Everybody drawn here has posted very beautiful work.

    Here is mine:

The blade is a GAW I won and is a gift from @aaronu that I will cherish forever. The wood is sweet chestnut sanded to 3000 grit with BLO coatings between each sanding. The pins are screws. I am currently rubbing a couple of drops of BLO on a daily basis. 2 months already of rubbing, I will keep on doing it for another 4 weeks and then a final coating of a home-made beeswax/BLO paste mix.

Thank you all for the inspiration you provide with your creations!

@Broke an antenna for lanyard tube
... I hope you guys won't mind much if I copycat you in the future. ;)

    Regards,

    Christos
