Today we had our little meet in CT at Osborndale State Park in Derby, CT.

@roadwarrior, @urazmusbdragn2, @point man and I had a blast! Weather was pretty warm but it started raining not too long after we arrived. This state park has couple of decent pavilions so we were quite comfortable. @point man did a nice presentation on friction fire and got it going literally within seconds even though it was humid and raining. Very nice presentation. He also got each of us sweet sets of cedar boards and sticks that worked really really well. We shared a bunch of experiences and talked about the usual...knives, gear, etc. We got little grill going, @point man did the fine shaving and @urazmusbdragn2 and I prepped the rest of the wood as it was super dry and tough oak.

@point man did some show and tell with firesteels and after couple tries @urazmusbdragn2 started a fire using my @Sargent Edged Tools M1.

There was quite a few sharp things on the table. We had couple production folders, Kellam puukkos, M1 and M3, GB Wildlife, Adventure Sworn Classic and others. For a 4 person group we were equipped. @point man being definite blade addicts brought the most and it was nice to handle different types of handles and compare the sizes, edges, spines, etc.

I don't know how @point man managed to use hand drill that successfully in such a moist air but it was really fun to watch how within few seconds smoke showed up and little volcano appeared on the friction board. I very much appreciated the step by step guidance on using this method.

Food was mostly Polish theme such as fresh kielbasa (sausage) and buns from scratch, tomato/onion/sour cream salad with Polish ketchup too hahaha. Desert consisted of unnamed (also made by my wife) cake with cinnamon sugar dipped fresh apples. My son visited us for few minutes after Saturday school for quick lunch.

For Otzi GAW guys pulled sticks and knife was won by @urazmusbdragn2 .

It was a great meet and whoever didn't come down, you missed a lot. I think we can do better in CT than 4 guys so perhaps next time there will be more of us.
Thank you guys for coming! Looking forward to see you again!

Michael, I'd like to know a little more about that small orange handled knife with the blue liners. I really liked that thing

What can I say other than a great day out with good people.

Small group size didn't mean lack of knowledge or fun. I learned and was able to take in much. point man was really ready for anything, well equipped with fire starting materials and his willingness to share knowledge was outstanding.

There were a few knives to be handled, always appreciate the workmanship involved. Round the table discussion very informative.

Big thanks to MichaelBear for setting the event up at Osbornedale SP and his wife for the lunch. Also a big dziekuje ci for the GAW, very much appreciatted!

We can't forget the man who started this, FIELDCRAFTLTC, without whom this would not have happened. Hope to meet in the future.

So, maybe a pre winter gathering before the weather really hits???

EDIT: also, I cannot recall the gentlemen's name, MichaelBear brought in some nice sewn pouches and a haversack of very nice quality, we each received a copy of the pouch.

    Thank you @urazmusbdragn2
Too bad FieldcrfaftLTC couldn't make it. Maybe next time.
Pouches were made by Tuff Possum Gear.
Pre winter sounds great. Interested in hearing of the possible dates etc. Thank you Tom!

We autta just say the first weekend of every month is a good time. At least that way people can expect some sort of regularity that there may be a gathering. Whether that particular month works out or not doesn't matter no pressure. We can all just expect the next first weekend of the month and so on. This way you can figure you calendars a ways out. Something like that

We only got together for a few hours. When you think about it that's pretty easy to do

Looks like you guys had a great time. Good food, nice selection of knives and throw in some bushcraft knowledge, well done. Michael I think you did good on the SET M1, I'm jealous.

    Great pics! Thanks!

Love seeing little groups of local guys become friends and get out together... way cooler than watching football on tv!

Hey all you CT bush crafters it is summer but fall will be here soon. Anybody interested in another meet up, maybe at White Memorial in Litchfield? Lets see if we can get it together over the next few months. I will take the lead if needed.

Munimula you are in, I will send out some PM's to the boy's when the end of summer gets closer. I want to feel that cool fall air and cook up some real good eats in the woods.

Roadwarrior, sounds like a great idea. Can't do much far from home right now, central Ct is good here. U2.
