1. Due to the amount of SPAM from foreign countries lately, we have made the decision to manually approve all new members. While we regret that this must be done and the added time that it will take for new members to be approved, it is necessary at this time. We hope to have legitimate new members approved in a timely manner, no longer than a couple of hours. If the Administrators are online at the time, it can be as soon as a couple of minutes. Thank you for your patience.

I am not totally ignorant on the subject of hatchets, but it sure isn't my strong suit. Wife and I were spelunking an antique store today and I came across this guy. $30. I bought it. Should I smile due to my good fortune, or curl up in a fetal position and cry? This whole critter comes in at 1.75 lbs, haft and all. Overall length 13". Poll to bit 4.75". Bit 3.25". Any info would be greatly appreciated oh knowledgable ones!

Thanks guys! I was hoping so, but I haven't spent near as much time trying to learn axes and hatchets as I have knives. That's gonna change, even though I think the last good tree was cut down in Kansas in about 1917, or thereabouts. Appreciate the responses!

Nice! It's not terribly old, my guess is 70s - 80s Permabond tells you it's no older than mid 50s. It's in real nice shape too.

It doesn’t look right...you need to beat it through several hardwood rounds with a 12 pound sledge hammer. Then it’ll look like most of the axes I find.
