Recently traded into a TOPS #1 tracker.

Do y’all pack a companion blade with yours? Looking for inspiration as the TOPS companion doesn’t look like a winner for me

Tom Brown did say that the T-1 should have a companion.

I carry a SAK as part of my EDC so I always have one.

If you are looking at a dedicated knife, consider the Mora Eldris. It is a great little knive that will do things that the T-1 may not be as good at because of its size. Reasonably priced, too.

It’s really hard to go wrong with a multi tool or Swiss Army knife. Just look at your tops #1 and all the great things it can do. What does it do poorly? Now Get a knife that does those things splendidly.

The only companion I ever partially liked was a basic multitool.

Here's kind of a pseudo Nessmuk Trio I've been considering.

Mora 2/0 for wood work and Case Mini Trapper for food stuff.

(Or maybe Case Sodbuster Jr. instead)

ETA: Actually here's a picture with all the small knives I've considered pairing with it

    Mora 2/0
    Case Sodbuster Jr.
    Victorinox Huntsman
    Case Mini Trapper
    Case Large Stockman

I usually use a small scandi blade like my Plainsmen knives Orion micro, Karelia bushtool, or a mora 2/0. And usually a leatherman wave + multitool as well. I always run a bit tool heavy but thats just me maybe. I also like to run a silky F100 folding saw with my WSK's. I guess if you are into the "one tool option" then just run the WSK alone. For me I really enjoy the versatility of a small scandi blade, WSK, folding saw, multitool combo. All together its not really that much weight if you compare it to carrying an axe.

An obsidian flake. No need for more steel with a WSK.

I like to think hes somewhat splitting a difference between his students and himself. He says that to students but in his personal stories he never mentions a companion knife. Just one knife.
