i got this drilled into me when i spend 3months in Montgomery, AL during July, Aug, Sept.

just remember if your urine is the amber/honey or darker it means your behind already and you need to start drinking!! so remember to drink frequently!

I remember going to the BWCA every year for a week, one of the friends I went with was a nig health nut and he always made us take a daily multivitamin.

Our pee would be bright neon yellow after a couple days! We always joked about it.

Something I always think about whenever someone mentions the color of urine. Thanks for the memory flashback, and the color chart... Could be helpful!

Excellent information and a good reminder for staying well hydrated especially during the hot summer months.

If you drink a bottle of Gatorade or other types of "sports drink," it's important to consume a 3:1 ratio of more water per bottle of Gatorade.

We have this sign at work. It's strenuous activity and sometimes in a very hot and humid environment in the summer so they take hydration pretty seriously.

It's a good time to test your PH levels .
A very acidic environment promotes cancer and an alkaline environment is significantly healthier .
The foods you eat adjust this value. meats amongst other things creates a more acidic environment.
Baking soda added to the diet will help positively alter ones PH .
PH test strips are available on line or in gardening or fish stores and in pharmicies .
My PH is at 7 currently. happy to say.

Wife made an Oscar the Grouch birthday cake a couple years ago. Home made frosting and all. We all peed green for a few days, it was awesome.

I'm always stressing to my students to drink enough when we're out and being active. Besides the color of their urine, I want them to understand that they shouldn't be peeing in "morse code" when the time comes to eliminate. They all laugh, but they get my point; which is all I really care about.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time....be well.

I do. Working outside in these hot days, any way to check if you're properly hydrated must be taken into account. Thanks for the reminder.

I read somewhere that a good rule of thumb is that you should be urinating for a minimum of 60 seconds combined total per day. That doesn't really mean much as everyone is different, but it should serve as some sort of indication. I watch myself now and if I haven't had the urge to go in a couple of hours, I know I'm on the start of dehydration. Rather than indelicately interrogate my hiking companions or coworkers on the color of their urine, I will tell them to drink more if I happen to notice they haven't urinated in several hours.

I started paying attention after a bud was diagnosed with kidney stones. I was letting myself get dehydrated, but no more. I do my best to stay on top of it now. I know it's not a cure to prevent kidney stones, but should help if I ever develop them...

Vitamin C tablets gives it a nice florescent yellow color...lol

actually, all that stuff ^ ^ ^ is really a guideline more than fact.
i take daily medication that says right on the label " may cause
    urine to darken ".
it's about as easy to just keep track of your daily consumption of
liquids. i must say that when i first saw this topic that i thought
it was about that guy that was advocating keeping a nalgene bottle
to pee in and measuring how much you pee each time. i haven't
seen or heard anything on him in a while, so i guess he finally
went away somewhere to pee in his bottle.

Ha! In winter warfare school we were taught how quickly you could dehydrate even in sub zero temps due to sweating in our mouse boots and woolies.

One of my jobs as platoon leader was to check the yellow snow. Oh, the glamour of military service.

We have that chart by every urinal in the USFS fire station bathrooms around here. Hard not to remember after seeing it a couple hundred times!

Absolutely. Those charts are hung over nearly every urinal in every offshore oil platform, land rig or refinery I've ever been in.

Like others have said, multivitamins and some
Medications will mess it up, but it's a good guide.

    Asparagus makes you pee funny.....
Drink plenty of beer, when you "pop the cork"...and have to go after every beer....you are healthy.

I used to do asphalt for a living and it was very hot. Some days I would drink over a gallon of water and not piss one time. All the water would come out in sweat. I also found that you need more than just water. Salty food like potato chips eaten along with lots of water will keep you feeling better. You lose alot more then just fluid when you sweat alot.
