I’m looking for a single wall stainless bottle (something I can put into a fire if need be), in or near 20 oz, prefer widemouth. Basically something like the Nalgene 38 oz, but cut in half.

I have a new haversack that is limited on room/height.

My google foo is failing me.

    Thanks

I had a steel Nalgene Guyot years ago that was just about 16oz
But I never saw them again so I dont know if they are out there or not
But you can get other types check Amazon. I bought one there but it was not wide mouth.

I own the green topped version of this Stanley bottle. They can be found for around $10 on sale if you look. The plastic tops are removable (unscrew them) and make for a really wide mouth. They are single wall.

Klean Kanteen 27 oz would work, but it’s a little too tall. Evidently they used to make one in 17 oz (500ml) that would work (same diameter, but a little shorter) but now discontinued of course.

I’ll look into the Stanley one.

The first bottle one posted looks like a narrow mouth- $4 for a stainless bottle though- Wow.

Klean kanteen makes an 18 oz single wall, unless it has been discontInued. I lost mine, bought at a thrift store for 50 cents, while on vacation. I really need to get a new one because it fits perfectly in my shoulder bag.

I've been looking for the short fat version of a clean kanteen 40oz.
    But I've had no luck.

I want one the same diameter so it doesn't rattle around nested in my toaks cup, but I want the low profile too.

they still make the 18 oz, they used to make a 16-17 oz that was a wide mouth- those appear to be long gone though

looking at the dimensions, the 18 oz with one of the flatter tops might work

Stanley shows 9.9” high, which is too high- nice looking bottle though

Klean Kanteens are good stuff. I have a couple that have seen nearly daily use for over eight years. Only negative is the sport caps will whistle when you drink. They have redesigned the sport cap a couple of times so I might have older versions.

Is the standard mouth opening large enough for your purposes?

I had the OP's same requirements a while back and went with the 18oz brushed Reflect version since it included a shorter cap, and it looked nicer of course, but you can mix and match their caps and bottles. Guess they have stopped manufacturing the small Reflect, but there seems to be stock left in a variety of places in both polished and brushed SS. Couple of things I really liked about the bottle was that it fit standard bicycle water bottle cages, and that the narrower/longer neck made for a decent mini baseball bat handle - TSA-proof impact weapon, if you will :D.

If you get the standard one with the flat green screw down top they are 9 inches even high, I've got 3 and just measured them.

^ ahh 9" would fit I'm pretty sure

BUT- I went through a bin of misc stuff and lo and behold- a 18 oz, single wall, wide mouth Klean Kanteen bottle, replete with diy bail wire!

never been used, but obviously purchased some (long) time ago:4:

Well... I went to double check my bottle and it is a ‘Green Canteen’. Anyone here know if the Clean Canteen lid will fit this thing? I have two of them and no Clean Canteen, although my Green Canteens are clean.

I have a couple Eco Canteens...mixed up the lids a couple times. They threaded on but seemed to leak a little.

Type "stainless steel mason jar" in google. First site has sample large widemouth mason jars for $5ish and you can buy stainless lids on amazon. $15 total

@Spork are those 16-ish oz bottles? if so what cups?

my bottle is just under 3” in diameter, none of the cups/small pots I have would fit. I do have a heavier plastic vitamin bottle that might work

The KK is a 12oz double wall with an Evernew 400ml cup that was branded for REI. The fit is close...snugged up by a single wrap of Gaffers tape.

The 16oz Nalgene is in a single wall mug that I can’t find for sale anymore. I believe it is 10oz capacity.

@mtwarden - Vargo makes something called a Bot, in steel or Ti, in 700mL and 1L.

Edit: I was wrong, they only make their 700mL in Ti. Apologies.

does it have to be a metal cup? I have a small dia bottle and it nests in this insulated coffee cup. it has 3" inside dia -- http://www.gsioutdoors.com/shop/beverages-partyware/mugs/infinity-backpacker-mug.html?color=Blue

and, if you cut the stitches and remove the handle, both of them nest inside any of the metal bottle cups. I use a an Olicamp 24oz Spacesaver Mug -- http://www.olicamp.com/products-cups-and-mugs/space-saver-mug

for a cup plastic would be fine, simply something to drink a hot beverage from- I've used the heavy plastic vitamin bottles with good luck- just cut to size, mine have always gone in a pot- this would be on the outside

I wish you wouldn't have showed me the ti bottles :4:
