These are two knives I have been looking at for a while and now that TKC has release custom scales for the HM it's really got me salivating I have my eyes on a CRK Pacific but that is another story. Anyway has anyone owns or owned both care to give an opinion? Thanks in advance for your time and patience.

I purchased an esee 4 over the summer and I absolutely love it, but if I could do it again I would have probably gotten the hm model instead. That's just my 2 cents

I've had a 6 for years and loved everything about it but the stupid choil -- now I have a 6HM and love it even better.
there was a limited run of 6HM's with G10 and a black oxide tumbled finish this fall, you may still be able to score one of those direct from ESEE.

6HM has the most comfortable production scales for my hand, I haven't seen the TKC scales yet.
The HM is a full tang trying to be a hidden tang comfort wise, and it's gettin' pretty close.

I don't know how Esee sold the other models! I bought a 3 and immediately hated it because of the choil or what-ever it's called.

When the came out with the HM models I thought, Finally they figured it out!

I have the esee 6. Great knife, worth every penny, just like anything they sell...can't go wrong either way.

6Hm In my opinion. I had a standard model 6 and it was a great knife, but I wanted a better handle.

My 4HM is more practical than my 6HM. But then I also favor all of my other 4" blade knives lately it's been the ESEE PR-4 with the new TKC handles.

I have a 6, I’ve spent a lot of time contouring the flat, so so handle. It’s decent but not inspiring. Not a huge fan of big choils either....so....6HM!

I like my 4 with it’s choil. I find it makes the piont much more sensitive when holding the knife in a saber grip. It would go even farter to make the 6 more handy, i think. If you already plan on using the TKC scales, i say get the vinila 6. You can always grind the thing down after the fact if you don’t like the Choil. If you were not planning on get the new scales though, I think the choice would be harder.

the problem with choils is that they are designed for people with medium/large hands - my index finger doesn't fit in the choil on an ESEE knife, so that's just wasted steel for me, unless I want to make it bigger and lose even more blade.
