    Imo, value ranges, etc, will just garble everything up. It's the same theory as secret santa. Yes, sometimes some packages are worth more money than others but that's not always the point. I do understand completely where those of you making that suggestion are coming from but if it comes to that, I would just watch from the sidelines.

    Lowlander= Highlander??? StopHammerStop = @gohammergo ???
    The names were changed to protect the innocent I guess. LoL

    I think it’s a good idea, and I’d be interested. I think that there needs to be some way to keep members from receiving a plastic butter knife in trade for their Enzo Trapper or a Mora in exchange for a Turley

    (I’d gladly accept a large hot pink Griptillian)

    I think common sense should prevent that, especially if this is a supporters only deal. Granted, there has been some shady goins on, on the forum lately. I'm hoping we are all in this for fun and not for doubling up.

    Edit add - I wanted to add that the knife I have in mind to use is not an expensive knife, quality yes but not expensive. It does however have a lot of meaning to me, which will hopefully count for bonus points.

    What the hell, I'm in. I have some right handed stuff I like but just don't use because of RH only pocket clips. If the clip is reversible I can operate most liner or frame locks LH if not too stiff.

    Lefty or ambi if a folder please, since we're making requests lol.

    How about the idea of being able to swap with another recipient after the initial swap, kinda like a white elephant exchange at Christmas?

    @Wasp I love this idea! I'm in. I especially like the original idea of it. Do it to be generous, do it to share, do it just for the fun of it. The value of a knife is subjective. I've hated some very expensive knives that I thought were almost useless; and I've loved some very inexpensive knives that worked so well that I would never call them cheap. Maybe, if everyone would follow a simple guideline. Only put up a knife that you wouldn't be ashamed to admit to later.

    This. This right here is the key! That's what I was going to suggest. :) Everyone post s picture of what they received.

    Another thought is to have a round #2 if everyone wants. In round 2, you send a knife of your choosing to the person who sent you the knife in round #1. ? That way, if you can kinda know that if you send someone your $3.00 worn out Pakistan folder to someone, you will probably receive one back?

    Or maybe it's best to not have any guidelines. Just put our trust in everyone doing the right thing. :)

    There is one possible thing I would like to add, and that is maybe a preference of being either fixed or folding. I know some folks don't carry a fixed blade much, if at all. I personally don't carry a folder, except for a Sak that was a gift from my wife. So if someone sends me a nice folder, it's going to sit on the shelf. A nice fixed blade, it's going to the woods with me. :)

    I'm ready to get rolling. Any takers for the honcho to run this? If not, I'll take the reins. Not sure how to do it, but I guess I can figure it out.

    :)

    Exactly why I'll pass. Experience has jaded me on these sorts of things, box passes, and such. There are always those first looking for what they can get out of it vs. what they can put into it.
    I'd stick with value categories. I have some excellent handmade knives that cost me less than some of my mass production knives.

    I personally don't care what I receive. If I can afford to give someone a $150 knife and they send me a $15 mora, I'm gong to trust that it was the best they could do. I will value that knife more than the one I gave away. I like the idea of doing this every 6 months or so, it will keep the "inventory" fresh.

    Was thinking about the fixed/folder issue too. I almost never carry a folder, even fixed (2) at church, except for a multitool.

    Maybe have two, one for fixed one for folders.

    If this is ongoing and you get a knife you wouldn't use the first time you can just trade it back out the next time, provided it's not totally useless.

    I think some sort of bottom limit would be good, idk. I've given away dozens of knives, at least $1k, to people who hardly use them. So actually getting one back for once would be cool.

    I got dibs on trading with @M.Hatfield hehe

    Looks like there's lots of interest so unless @Wasp or anyone else here has an objection, I will "run" this show so we get the ball rolling. If so, the I'm in's in this thread will not count, give me a couple days to come up with some guidelines and if you agree to them, I'll start a sign up thread, then post your I'm in.

    I wouldn’t be too concerned about the people who participate here sending garbage knives to one another. Maybe set a min and max value as a guide... but it’s almost unnecessary in BC-USA.

    You'd be surprised what some people would send. Look at some of the pass-a-rounds where members go missing with loot.

    @Mr. Tettnanger
    People have actually kept the knife that was supposed to be for a pass around?

    I’ve seen a few threads were a member would go radio silent for an abnormally long time, but would pop up randomly with a reason why.

    To agree to do the pass around and just keep the knife is really messed up on a bunch of levels.

    @blue333 I know it happened to Matt (MP knives), which is why he’s reluctant to do any more pass arounds. I’m sure there are others...

    There are several of you guys I wouldn't mind trading with. Not to see what I could get out of the interaction, but to be able to share the stuff I like with you. Its a good idea for a GAW, and I think we could be understanding if the organizer was to be selective with the members allowed into the pool, drawing, or what have you.

    If a member gets wronged by someone, as in the gift is never delivered. I will offer up a second gift for that person.

    We all know what would happen to the person who doesn't deliver...

    I would be up to this as well. I have a modified Esee 4HM or Izula II to trade, depending on the time frame I may finish my ferries rasp trekker style knife up in time as well.

    Ok, starting the thread now in the Supporters Forum. I went back and forth on this but for this time, this trade thread will be for supporters only. This is not to drum up more supporter memberships, this is not saying that supports are better in any way, etc. This is strictly in the interest of keeping a manageable number of participants for this initial offering. If this goes well, I would like to make it an annual event and make it open to all members. Obviously I don't own a patent on this idea, anyone else is more than free to start their own trade thread that includes everyone. I hope this doesn't cause any hard feeling and in the event that it has, I apologize.
