let’s toss around some ideas for a fall pa meetup!
How bout a big trail walk, sitting down to eat lunch and practice some skills, and shoot the breeze, then walk back out.
After Halloween before Thanksgiving?
What area are we talking?
I probably can’t make it but I’d love to try!
I’m in philly willing to drive 2 ish hours , hawk mtn pinnacle area is good centralism pa area, I’m open for anything.
I'm in Lancaster. I'd drive a little ways also. I usually go to michaux state forest.
Michaux is amazing in the Fall time, but no matter where it is I would most likely be able to attend with enough notice.
Bald eagle state park, maybe? Quite literally smack in the middle of the state.
Love Michaux. Haven’t been to Bald Eagle but been wanting to.
Michaud would be good to practice skills I’m down for whatever.
Rothrock State Forest? Center of the state.
I agree. I am down for what ever also within reasonable driving distance. michaux is almost a 2 hour drive for me so thats prob my limit.
I'm interested (but NOT avail Oct 19/20/21).
The intersection of Route 80 and Route 476 (Hickory Run State Park) could draw a lot of bushcrafters
Hey, Im sure you know this already, lol, but Tella and I are huge into Halloween, and have a party every year. We just thought of this idea earlier today; A horror halloween party out in the woods. We plan on doing this at group site five at weiser state forest in port clinton this year. Would you guys be up for that? We really hope to have a good turn out!
Another idea is a mass pilgrimage to gosstoberfest.
?? in Maryland? Definitely too far for me. Not to mention, I'll be away for training.
I'd be willing to go a little father if someone in the area were up for a carpool. I'm just west of Philaelphia. Otherwise... I think my max drive time is going to be 2 1/2 hours. Having said that, Michaux is right at that sweet point of 2 hours and 24 minutes drive time.
I've also been wanting to get out to Michaux for some time.
Depending what weekend I would be in. If it's during small game season we should do somewhere you could hunt if so inclined. I will drive pretty much anywhere and like to see new territory.
Watching just to see if this lands on a weekend that I'm free. Between a job, kids and a business, this fall is pretty busy and we ain't even there yet. I would like to meet some folks finally. It's been years since I made it to a proper campout-type meet.
What dates are we talking about currently? @designtom said he's unavailable Oct 19-21. I should be available Oct 6 or Nov 3, but transportation there/back may be sketchy unless I get a car before then (in the market).
Same, I work this weekend
As long as it is not during Muzzleloader season, I should be available any weekend after October 20th and before Rifle season. I like the idea of possible small game hunt.
Let's say weekend of November 3. How would that work for everybody? Not a hard date.
Last suggestion was weekend of November 3rd. Summer is almost over. Let's get something going.
Talk it up fellow Pennsylvanians
I’m in for weekend of nov3
Boy, I would love to get together with some folks. But it may have to wait until a bit later. I'm running a WFA class the weekend of Nov. 3rd., so I'll be busy.
You're all invited to come to that.
I was thinking of possibly hosting a meetup up at the one designated camp site in Pinchot State Forest at some point. But I need to try to plan that around the upcoming holidays and hunting seasons during that time of year. It would be kinda cool to be able to hunt during the meetup and cook up some game.
I should be good for any weekend in October or November. Sooner the better.
I should be able to swing November. I'm just waiting to see where we land to see if I'm able to drive it.
I'm free that weekend (Nov 3). I'll see about getting it on the books.
@Sandcut let me know when that trip gets set up! That sounds like a lot of fun.
November 3rd should be good for me as well. Has a location been determined?
It's open for suggestions on location and date. Just trying to get the ball moving.
Any way to turn St Anthony's Wilderness into a meet location?
Any chance there's a campsite/spring on the Applachian Trail below "Stone Tower"
Well my work schedule now rolls Thursday to Sunday so my weekends are gone for quite sometime. So I'll have to back out of this one. Hope you ladies and gents have a grand old time!
I'd be interested in attending a meet up if you didn't mind a Marylander sneaking into the group.
Doable for me, just a mere 3 hours from home. Interesting that none of the trail reports discussed a campsite or spring. My concerns are the AMD (acid mine drainage) in the area (photographs and reported)and because of that fresh potable water might be hard to come by.
Just realized this was in State Game Lands, campfires are prohibited. Might not be a good location.
Hertlein campsite on the Appalachian Trail.
Probably won't help us ........ but the swimming hole has a rope swing.
It's time to get this nailed down. Fall is coming!
Weekend of Nov 3 should still be good for me. I'm pretty flexible on places.
Nice! The Hertlein campsite is definitely doable for us! It's less than an hour drive away. I believe and day will be good for us as long as we have a couple weeks notice, so we can schedule it in.
I think I could do a Saturday overnighter on that first November weekend that most people are leaning towards.
I'm Ok with the date everyone is leaning toward as well.
Let me know so I can lock it in on my calendar!
I should be good for that weekend. Is this on state gamelands?
Looks like private land / Appalachian Trail Corridor. https://www.google.com/maps/place/H...915a8f7155deae!8m2!3d40.5099473!4d-76.2753537
Hertlein, is a bit out of my travel "reach". I'll have to bow out, but maybe can get a regional meet-up together on the 3rd up north.
Wow, my 1,000 post
I'm free that weekend and definitely interested. Hertlein looks gorgeous.
I should be good for nov 3rd. Michaux or Hertlein
I'm excited at the possibility of the Hertlein campsite first weekend of November
Hertlein campsite is just 19.6 miles due east of the originally queried St Anthony's wilderness. Hop, skip and a jump. People literally walk to it from the Stone Tower trail (that's a joke).
Hertlein would be too easy for me to get to to have an excuse not to go!
