I posted this in the bushclass thread as well, but I wanted to post in here because I'm pretty happy that I was able to do a solo overnighter.
I have been camping a bunch of times but have never been ablre to do it alone.

    My gear for the night.

    Hennesy hammock.

Scout keepin an eye on me.

    A couple of knots.

    Home for the night.

My dogwood is serving me well.

The beginnings of a long fire.

I think this is Indian Strawberry.

    Improvised metal cooking container.

    Rice and steak on.

    Dinner is served!

    A devil dog!!!

Nope, just Ken and Beta, stoppin in for a visit.

    A quick strop.

Ken had enough of the bugs, time to go home to air conditioning;)

Scout was sad to see them leave...can you tell? lol
    [IMG]

A couple fire shots that I think look cool.

A nice sunrise shot with Scout.

I had a good night, thanks for lookin.

Good job Joe, looks like a great time. Juicy steak always sets the mood.

I had planned a solo trip for tonight but the boys have vetoed and intend to accompany.

It was fine, but to be honest I should have gone without Scout to get the full "solo" experience, but I couldn't leave him at home once he saw me getting my gear ready...he knows what those BDU pants mean lol.

Congrats! Great looking setup, gotta love the HH's. Have had severe thunderstorms rolling thru overnight or I would have done the same in mine too. Nothing better then a night out with the dogs either. :dblthumb::dblthumb:

Ok, we really need to know a bit more before you can get credit for a "solo" outing. for instance, if Scout hung the hammock, or chopped some of that firewood.....not so sure we can count it.

But if he just laid around and let you do all the work and the only thing he did was keep asking, "Hey Dad, when do we eat?!" then in that case, you're good to go!

Nice job.....looks like you guys had fun, and that's what it's all about.

Glad you had a good time Joe. Sometimes its good to listen to those sounds alone and contemplate. You can hear so much better when I'm not snoring 20 yards away anyhow :D

Your picture below reminds me of what inspired me on my wardrobe...

Oh yeah, here it is...the inspiration

Congrates on your first solo. Its the only way to go if you ask me. I just got back a couple days ago from a short 4 day pack trip with a buddy. I havent camped with anyone for years. Though I enjoyed my time camping with some one else I still found myself wishing I were alone a couple of times. I have a feeling you'll do a few more before it's over.

Looks like a good trip Joe, does Scout stay around in the general area while you are sleeping. Tried taking our lab out a few times on overnighters and she seems to wander if left loose and pester when tied up.

Looks like a good trip. I don't even remember when my first solo overnighter was. I have done so many solo trips they all blur together.

Solo trips are good in many ways, but lacking in others. I would like to camp with others a bit more (last time I camped with other people was last August) but solo camping allows me to slow down a bit and process the world a bit differently and move at my own speed, which can be a great recharge.

The sunrise picture with Scout in it is a really, really great picture.

Ya the wins were...I was Guerilla camping and I did not get found out, my car was still there in the morning, and I succesfully scared off a few Coyotes.
The fails were, I only slept periodically, waking up every few hours, and I did not get a chance to make those nifty potholders, I ran outta daylight.

The difference in light under the canopy compared to the trail was amazing. We both dawned headlamps while walking out because it was starting to dim so fast in the forest. By the time we got to the fields it was still plenty bright. I can imagine it was pretty dark by the time you got back especially if you took a walk up the trail once I left. Probably a little bit interesting finding your shelter again.

I think the wakefulness is common especially when stealth camping. As you know, I usually have my wife drop me off so as to not have my car out there. So that would cause me to fret a bit just knowing my vehicle was in a spot near the road and flagging that somebody is out in that bush. I bet that hammock was more comfy than my platform though!

    Looks like a great trip!

You’ve partially answered, but I would be interested in hearing more about how it felt.

Either I have gotten spoiled or I am in a rut, but I only care about solo outings these days. It’s all about getting out there and hitting that reset button that’s only there when it’s just me.

(I do like taking my boys camping, but that’s more for them than me, and I think of it as camping rather than bushcrafting.)

Without this thread being "bumped" I would have never known this post was from Joe Robinet.

Looks like a great outing and though I am late, congrats on that first solo outing.

I really don't remember my first solo outing, I did a ton as a kid and they all sort of blur together now, age will do that.
