I boiled it in salt water and have it in a shoe box of it's own shavings drying out.
Why the salt water?
I don't know. I think it boils tastes and maybe some toxins out of the wood.
Ya done well young fellar. It looks very nice and I like it. Nice tip about salt water also. joe
Great job, please post pics after you finish it!
You carved this by hand? It looks great!
Looks great!! Hand carve or power tools? I have not tried one yet. It is on my list.
I cheated and used a forstner bit for finger holes and about half way on the cup hole.
That's not cheating, IMHO it's being smart. Nothing wrong with doing it all by hand if that's what a person chooses to do... but nothing wrong with using modern tools to get what ya want either. After all we are using this modern tool we call the internet to learn bushcraft/survival aren't we?
If you are happy with it, go for it. I will be using power tools most likely.
If you are not cheating, you are not trying hard enough!!
Removes tannins from the wood.
That bitter stuff needs to go lol
That would be excellent if it was your twentieth one.
Very nice! I need to try and make one.
Awesome!!! Ha, you should see my first five. I still don't have a kuksa to show for it, lol.
That's incredible work for a first go... If you said you had been making these for years, I'd believe that, easily. Well done.
