We just received a batch of F1 Tents that are French Army Surplus. These tents are in brand new condition. There is no sign that they were ever issued or used, and there isn't even any sign that they were stored for very long. This is a 2-man Pup Tent with integrated rain fly and waterproofed bathtub-style floor. It's the best designed and constructed Pup Tent I've ever seen, and the quality of materials and construction easily exceeds a lot of modern tents from the big names. I am excited to be able to offer such a high quality tent for less than $100.

From what I can tell, this model of tent was common in NATO countries until they recently started moving to free-standing dome-style tents. There may be folks here on the forum who know more of the tent's backstory than I've been able to uncover.

Our price is $74.99 with Free Shipping to any US address. You can find them here on our site: https://5col.com/products/f1-commando-pup-tent-french-army-surplus

    -Tent measures 84" long x 40" high x 58" wide
-Packs down to 22" long x 8" wide x 5-1/2" tall for storage or transport.
-Tent with poles, stakes, and stuff sacks weigh just 5 lbs 12 oz.

If I hadn't just bought a 6 person tent for the family I'd be looking at getting one of these for my boys. Looks to be a great tent at an exceptional price.

Wow. Looks like a modern A-frame tent -- but durable.

Imagine trying to sell this new on the consumer market from a leading maker. I can hear the marketing guys howling about hollow aluminum stakes. But the result is a field repairable, sturdy tent that frankly still isn't all that heavy -- a pound lighter than my last hiking tent.

Wish I didn't have to pass. GLWS.

First time I used it we had a night of thunderstorms and it did fine. Not sure what the wind speed was but it was definitely blowing. Rain fly worked great and tent stayed upright with no issues.

Andy are these reinforced where the poles meet the fabric?

Yes, the poles fit into reinforced pocket at the peak corners. This picture doesn't do a great job showing it, but you can get the idea.

i have one of these that I acquired several years ago. It is a pretty good little tent. The screened section along the short walls are a nice feature when the weather is warm, offering more positive ventilation than most pup tents (even while raining).

Got mine yesterday and set it up in the yard. Worth way more than it cost. Super fast to set up and take down. Those 5x7 survival tarps/all weather blankets make a perfect footprint for it. Good stuff!

I suppose, technically, these are considered surplus, but mine is absolutely brand new, never used and appeared to have just rolled off the assembly line. Very happy with this purchase.

We're down to just three of the F1 Pup Tents in stock right now. More are on order, but they're taking a long time to get here. It's starting to seem like they're on the slow boat from France.

I'm so glad you asked! We offer same-day shipping for orders that come in by 10:00am EST Mon-Fri. Your order came in a little after that, so it will go out tomorrow morning. These tents ship by Priority Mail, so you're probably looking at Monday or Tuesday of next week for delivery.

    Ordered Tuesday night, shipped Wednesday,
delivered Friday and put to work saturday!
This thing is a steal at the price and comes with everything you could need in a sack much smaller than I expected. The spring loaded poles were a nice throwback. Ventilation was great in the day and it was nice to shut the vents when the temp dropped. Luckily no rain last night so I can't speak to how it sheds water, and hope I never have to.
The 3 zippers per door are very handy and the bug mesh works as intended.
    All around a win!
    Thanks again Andy

Took a long time...but I finally broke down and bought one for those few times someone goes with me into the woods. Although it's difficult to find people who wish to go along - they prefer the "glamping" method and tell me I work too hard while in the woods - that it's a time and place to relax and do nothing....they have no idea how relaxing it is to split wood, make a fire - hunt, fish and catch my meals....VERY relaxing

I'm not sure what kind of mosquito mesh they use. I learned recently that there's another variety of F1 Tent out there that has front flaps that are nylon, but no internal mosquito mesh doors. All the tents we've gotten so far have zippable mosquito mesh doors inside the nylon front flaps. In other words, you can roll back the front door flaps for ventilation and still have zipped screen doors behind them, to keep out the bugs.

Andy...got another request. I'm looking at one of these for my son as he wants his own two person tent and I think he'd really like this one. I'm curious what the weight would be if we left the poles and heavy stakes home and just used our trekking poles and lightweight stakes. Could you get a weight on just the tent and stuff sack without the poles and stakes? If that's too much trouble I understand. Thanks.

Hey, glad you posted this. Never received a PM from you about the tent. USPS hadn't picked up your tent yet, so I unpacked it and checked. You're good to go, boss. See attached image of the mosquito net door flaps on your forthcoming tent (I pushed the nylon flaps out of the way for the pick, but they're there as well).

Just to clarify, all the F1 tents we've handled so far have the mosquito net door flaps. However, I've seen people on the internet say that tents they bought from other suppliers did not have the mosquito nets. I am wondering if those were earlier versions of the tent than we're getting.

    IMG_0739.JPG

    @Kona9: here are approximate weights:
Tent Only (no stakes, stake bag, stuff sack, poles, or guy lines): 3 lb 13 oz.
    Empty Stuff Sack: 2 oz.
    Poles: 11.3 oz.
Stakes + Guy Lines + Stake Bag: 1.06 lb.

I weighed these on our shipping scales, so there may be a little bit of play in the numbers, but not too much. There are two different styles of stuff sack as well, so you may find some variation in weight there.

We have 4-packs of lightweight aluminum stakes available separately on our site: https://5col.com/products/4-pack-aluminum-tent-stakes-ultralight-0-5-oz-coghlans-new
4 of those stakes clock in at 2.6 oz. The tent itself comes with a whopping 17 stakes, but you can get by with less.
