Just checked again, Hudson Bay not listed. BB is back to 128.00.

Just like March weather, wait 30 minutes and it'll likely change again.

Using gb30 and the 50 off 150 automatically added, I was able to get 2 of each of the axes (4 total) for 124 shipped.

I’m unsure of what I’ll do with them, but I can’t pass that up.

These guys must be liquidating or something. It's like this all over the site with very few exceptions. This is more than a sale, IMHO.

Any word on your refund yet? My pack should be arriving tonight, but I haven't heard an update from Guideboat on my price adjustment yet

So I had to go back to this website after seeing the 30% off worked today - seems like it's erratic and random, so figured I might check. I couldn't load the product pages on my desktop at work for some reason, but it was working with my phone. Anyways, there was/is also a promo for $50 off $150 and $100 of $250. I figured shoot, with that and the 30% off and the "bitofdough" promo that's ridiculous. So I tried adding enough things to hit $150. The $50 came off automatically. I tried the 30% off discount, which kicked off the $50 off. However, I could still add the "bitofdough" after, which worked. That being said it didn't show the 30% off code anymore in the promo box, but the price still reflected the 30% off and "bitofdough" promo, which together was better than the $50 off. After I placed my order I checked the site a little later and some items were gone (Hudson Bay axe) and some item prices were different - kind of what was seen by others on previous days. Now they seem all back to normal. It's like the system is running amok or something.

Anyways, here's what I scored the last couple days (today's deal was just ridiculous - may return some of the first order even if I have to pay return shipping because the deal from today will still far exceed the cost of return shipping which I think is only $9 if they generate you the return form - or I'll hold it all and recoup finances at a later date):

First order (en route, price confirmed on credit card) - 1 x Hudson Bay Velvicut axe, 1 x Bad Boy axe, 1 x Uncle Bill tweezers, 1 x Camping and Woodcraft book = $124 shipped

Today (!!!! - price confirmed on credit card) - 2 x Hudson Bay Velvicut, 1 x Bad Boy, 3 x Uncle Bill, 1 x Lumber crayon, 3 x Storm safety whistle = $127 shipped (!!!...you can see now why for $3 extra I had to order this and consider returning some of the first order if necessary)

Interesting that it worked for you - for me it didn't take both (see above post), but still was a heck of a deal - wonder if it was because the 30% off took it below $150 total....in any case I'm with you that too good to pass these up.

I must of gotten one of the last Frost river packs because they backordered one and shipped the other. So if anyone wants to let go one of their spares at a profit holler at me !

My very first order I cancelled (via email) after realizing I could get a better price and the email response confirmed cancellation and said similar 2-5 business days.

So it is 4:20 Central Standard time and I just went online and their catalog shows all prices at the usual normal levels, with the exception of a few sale items under a Red link titled "Sale". Seems someone must have figured out they were losing a lot of money.
Sure wish I could have got the new coupons and other incentives to work before I placed my order yesterday, and while the sale prices were still showing.

Well of course I had to jump in on this. 3 days ago I ordered a pack and a Hudson Bay axe. They arrived today. I was able to use the bit of dough promo. Pack cost 78.70 and axe 48.30. Total 127.00. Great deal and quick shipping too!

That website is straight up crazy. If we were all in one room, I'd swear this was some marketing experiment where ad men were studying our reactions to different sales stimuli.

There are only a few logical explanations to this, IMO

    1. They are liquidating (either company or stock)
    2. There was an error in the 'sale' pricing either by themselves or (more likely) in combination with some of the discount promo's they had

I'm inclined to believe #2 as they were making changes often to the pricing/sale ongoing yesterday. Either way, some/most of the goods shipped so far. I hope that trend continues but am a little concerned we may have broke the bank on yesterdays deals. It has to be below cost at those prices.

I've been trying to figure out what the deal was with them. Your #2 makes sense, but I also agree with the liquidation part. It seemed to me the axes and some of the other items we were buying were an odd fit for on that site. They had $60+ shirts and $54 axeso_O. I wondered if they bought out another store's assets.

Well, it was a blessing (and curse:D) for us! I tried to cancel my first order, but it shipped. I may end up with an extra axe of each flavor. I fear my wife's going to kill me with one:56:

For what its worth--- I did a little digging.

Seems the Guideboat company went out of business late last year. From what I can tell, the remaining parts of it may have been picked up by J.Peterman (Ala Seinfeld) . All that said, it may be a combination of both of my thoughts in reality.

In the end, as long as I get my stuff, I'll be happy.

This causes me some concern because I ordered some odd ball stuff like oars and a paddle. So far, no shipping notice, even thought I ordered the stuff on Monday. I guess these are fire sale prices that we are not likely to see again.

I saw that too, but noticed references to a California company by that name going under. This company is in Ohio, so I suspect they are not the same. That said, their website is screwy beyond just the bipolar pricing. I signed up for an account and tried to look at my order history. It goes to an error page. Ultimately, we made out like bandits if all orders are received. I broke the news to the boss, while her mind was on other things and she just made some remarks about shopping addiction then walked away:)

    J. Peterman is HQ in Ohio. They seemed to have picked up the brand and (i'm assuming) the stock. I'm guessing this is just inventory liquidation. Once they saw the orders pile up quickly -- they reverted to the higher pricing to see if they can squeeze more out of the stock. (Possibly)

When I spoke with customer service, the representative was from J. Peterman, and didn't seem to know the inventory too well, so this seems like the most likely answer. Probably trying to liquidate inventory from a buyout, and either wanted to take a break to assess the situation, or wanted to try and squeeze a few more bucks out of sales.

It seems we have solved the mystery at last. Heck of a deal we got! A re-seller could have scooped all the packs and axes up and made an insane profit over time on the trade blanket.

My email to cancel my very first order was responded to by J. Peterman the next day. Order cancellation was confirmed and nothing shipped from that order, but no refund yet, though I do have it in writing that it will be refunded. That makes sense that maybe they bought out and were liquidating old stock.

I only placed one order, already a great price; even though an opportunity opened later where it could have been even cheaper I didn't try to game it by placing another order and dropping the first one, I didn't want to risk them being unable to fulfill the later order and get stuck with nothing. Delivery scheduled for today and I'm excited about it.

It's legit and pretty stinking amazing at this price. If it's fake they went through a heck of a lot of trouble to pass it off and I'll never know the difference.

Well, I just got an email from them saying there were issues with matching the billing address for my credit card and the delivery address that I provided. I have both a PO Box and a physical street address. I gave them both the mailing address and the street address, so my first thought was they were trying to find a way to get out of filling my order. However, I called the number they gave me and spoke with a very nice woman who left me feeling like we had everything straightened out. She said my order would probably ship tomorrow. At this point, I can only hope. BTW, phone was answered J. Peterman Co.

Looks legit to me! I was billed $51.69 for the axe, $4.85 for 2 books, $3.23 for 2 tweezers and $1.62 ea for incense. Add in $9 for Postage and Handling for a total of $72 shipped in 2 boxes.

So... Here is an interesting point.

    I ordered the Boys axe.

I received a 2# Woodcraft pack axe with sling and mask. Not sure how I feel about the switch. Anyone else get the pack axe?

The pack axe I got was the 24". Its growing on me... The sling and mask are a nice addition. I expect the boxes are the same size for the pack axe and the boys axe and they just grouped everything together.

My two axes and pack came today, they are legit, and look exactly like the photo above. Whatever happened, we got really, really lucky here!

I didn’t have time for pictures, but two boxes arrived today. One had the boys axe and it looks great. The other contained the two books I ordered, Be Expert with Map and Compass and Kephart’s Camping and Woodcraft in hardcover. So far so good.

As a pleasant surprise to me...the pack I ordered came and was black instead of khaki.

I'm happy for everyone who got a great deal. It's the most schizophrenic website I've ever seen.

Yep, Hudson Bay and Bad Boy, they're full legit.

Anybody take a tape measure to these things? From the top of the toe to the bottom of the knob, I get the Bad Boy at 28" but the Hudson Bay at 18"...
