    Hello all,

Got together with @Seahunter over last weekend to get our boys outside and to work on some bowdrill kit scouting. Seahunter recommend trying box elder for a bowdrill kit and had scouted some dead standing in our area. We met at the trailhead and made the short hike with a couple of two year olds in tow.

It was a nice and shady hike but still in the mid to high 90s in our AO. The Pup and Seahunter's son seem to be getting used to hiking in the heat here and they both did really well.

After we got to the box elder tree Seahunter took some time entertaining the boys while I harvested a spindle and hearth.

I didn't get a picture of it but @Teeps sent the Pup a toy bolt knife and while I was harvesting my kit the Pup was "helping" by cutting a branch with his "knife". Next time I will make sure to snap a picture. Thank you again for the fun bushcrafting toy @Teeps !

After hiking back to the trailhead to sit in a cool redwood Grove Seahunter and I discussed some upcoming trips, bowdills, and knives. It was a quick trip but very productive and fun. The bonus was after I got home I continued to work on my kit and am proud to say I got an ember really quickly. Honestly my ember is thanks to Seahunter's advise. He really assisted in getting me to this spot. Thank you!

You're very welcome. One does not simply walk by a toy bolt knife at a thrift shop :)

It was a fun trip. I am glad I could help with friction fire stuff. Congrats on producing an ember from a bow drill kit you made. A little farther down the trail I found a big pile of bee's wax that something like a raccoon had pulled out of a bee hive. There was enough to fill 4 shoe boxes with wax. I carried as much home as I could. I am going to try to make some candles from it.
