I've been a backpacker and learning bush craft since I got out of the army in 1976. I lived in the PNW until the early 1990s when I moved to central Illinois for economic reasons, which severely curtailed my backpacking activity. Day hiking is about as good as it gets here so there have been fewer opportunities to maintain old skills and learn new skills. Retired, now, and will eventually relocate to an area where I can start backpacking more easily. I've always hiked several times a month, but looking forward to some extended backpacking trips again while I am still able to do so, which I hope to be for some time to come as spry old farts run in my family.
