Well there are a few of us here. I noticed you have some of the basic cert required Scott. Can't wait to get that done. I wondered as well if anyone might know of some good areas for day hikes here in the state? I'm situated about 15 minutes out of the Sumter national forest. The forestry service doesn't allow fires or the cutting of standing wood in this area. I can use naturally felled wood but would like to find some places that I could really use my skills during a short hike. Hard to feather old rotten pine ya know?

It really sucks that they dont allow fires in SNF. I have a VERY small wooded area near my house by a creek that I did all my fire related requirements. It's plenty big enough to camp but I'm not sure if my sub-devision owns the land or if its private. A lot of the neightborhood kids go there and hang out but not when it's hot as crap. Only I'm that dumb. :) It's kinda nice.

Lol they let you have fires in the campground but they are only open a couple weeks out of the year. As I live in an apartment I don't think my neighbors would care for me starting one stick fires on the porch. Although I quite often practice feathersticking here and I strike em up with the fero rod before pouring water on them.
